Ok
So my next sudo project is to install a trunk pop in preperation for an alarm, my audio shop said it would be 75 bux, if i can do it for half that ill go through with it. BTW I have a V6 Gen 4 Camry. Ive done some reaserch this thread seemed somewhat helpful: electric trunk release/pop/popper installation
i think the only difference is that I want to mount the acutator under or near the drivers seat, so it will be easy to run a button for the trunk near the mirror controllers. Can Anyone reccommend a general guide on how to go about doing this. Or how about a kit. Ive seen these on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33656 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW
Thanks as always for skoolin the unlearned

Won't work.
The actuator/selenoid has to be in the trunk. It needs to pull on the trunk release latch.
Those kits on eBay will work. Keep in mind that you'll need to wire in a SPST (single pole single throw) or SPDT (single pole double throw) automotive relay, if you want to trigger it with your alarm.
The aux. outputs on alarms are low current outputs, so you must use a relay.
so the actuator/selenoid has to pull on the release itself hmm(i still dont really see why i can have the actuator/selenoid pull on the trunk release cable, where the pull handle usually goes, so it replicates the action of pulling up?)
im not going to install the alarm myself so i can let the pros deal with that
so it looks like my inner pull handle should still work huh

Well the actuator/selenoid should be installed in the trunk.

You can install it that way, but I only way I can see it working is if you bolt the actuator/selenoid to the side of the seat, so that it pulls up on the lever.
I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want a big ol ugly selenoid bolted to the side of my drivers seat.

Yes, it'll still work
The manual trunk release lever inside the car will still work. Theres a cable that runs from the lever to the latch in the trunk, so its independent of the electric trunk popper actuator/selenoid.
for the solenoid to work by placin in the cabin, the solenoid must be stationed and the cable insulator has to be stationed also. its stupid to do it that way, just mount it on the trunk itself.
some of the solenoid doesnt come w/ this one parts that needs to be rivetted into the panel. ask b4 ordering, the one w/o the rivetting part sux. just ask if it has a rivet in the kit and theyll know.

Just wondering, what's the benefit to having an electric trunk release as opposed to the regular pull release next to the driver's seat (other than being able to remotely trigger it with an aftermarket alarm)?
thats the whole idea, when i get my alarm i can just hook this up. The shop that would install my alarm said they would charge 75, so im trying to save a buck or 2

the wireing can be a little tricky but its not too bad, remember to use good connections and solder when ever possible. I have this on mine and it works very nice when I have my daugter in one arm and groceries in the other (keys in hand) hit the button and I'm all good
I also wired in a mercury switch trunk light. It still puzzels me why it didn't come with one
