Why doesnt Delphi Modulator work?

I was hooking up a Delphi FM Modulator to my iPod today. i was told ahead of time that it wouldnt work because the modulator is made for an XM radio receiver, but i did it anyways to see exactly why it wouldnt work. hooked up antenna, sent the other antenna to the radio, and hooked up my power and ground. hooked up the audio input to my ipod with no problem. the only wire left is the 6Volt DC OUTPUT from the modulator (where it would normally go to the XM receiver).

Well the modulator didnt work and i was told that the 6Volt DC output must be hooked up in order for the modulator to turn on. i cant figure out why, cuz there is 6volts of power going through that wire whether its plugged up or not. is there any way i could hook up a fuse or resistor and transistor or anything like that that would draw 6volts of power through the wire?

6 volts wont go through it unless its connected to something, dont you know about continuity and what not? I wonder if you could hook it up to a relay or something to make it think it was powering an XM radio.

I would think a relay or something of that nature would work. Hit up RadioShack and give it a shot

ive looked around the web and havent really been able to figure out exactly how to hook up the relay? First of all, will it draw the 6Volts of power from the modulator? and how do you hook it up? right now the 6Volt output i have looks like the picture in the link here ( http://www.dephekt.com/whatever.jpg )
How do i connect that wire to the relay?
