Help with my audio dillema

Ok
lemme try and lay out my situation
im trying to get to a midrange audio system over the long run
but right now because im such a good customer at my local audio store i can 15% plus my usual friend discount
i want to do components next
i thinking about doing the type R's from alpine
i can get these on ebay for about 150, the shop quoted me about 250 after everything
how hard is it to install these, if i have to soder anything ill lose ll confidence etc.
This brings me to question, i can have them install the alpine 2 channel for 130
theres no way im installing the amp, just cause i dont feel that i could do that.
What do u think they should install. How hard is it to install components, im planning on edeading the door so ill have to get that off one way or another. How will the stock fronts sound with a better amp??
thanks so much, feel free to write whatever
Anshu

I don't know anyone who solders anymore. It sounds like, by the way you write, that you have a choice between getting components or getting an amp. I would vote for the components.

The quality of the installation is by far the biggest factor in how good a particular set-up sounds. The components will be playing the majority of the music so you ought not skimp on their installation. The difficultly of installing something depends on the level of knowledge and experience you possess. There are a multitude of tutorials available on the internet for those willing to google.

And since I can write whatever:

Hocus Pocus, flippity flam. A Razzamatazz and .....

if i got the self install route with the components and get the amp installed i can get both, just a little spaced out
because that will cost 280, slightly more then what then just the components would cost,
again more info on how the hard it is to install the comps, is it hard to tune them? and how does the stocks sound with a nice amp?

I wouldn't bother with components if you're not gonna amp them.

If you're going to get Alpine, get the type-x(spx-177r)

You should check out the for sale section on www.elitecaraudio.com mostly all the stuff on there is really good.

don't worry about soldering....it is a lost art nowadays. I solder connections everynow and then and it is mainly to keep in practice (required to do trailer lights). But the components should run well without an amp if you have a aftermarket deck with enought power to run them. Personally, I would do the amp thing. Also...installing the comps yourself is kinda tricky if you haven't done it before, you're gonna need a few new tools to do it right as well....holesaw bits mainly. PM me if ya need info

Soldering is no big deal. Go to Radioshack or check their website for something called cold solder. Makes a novice a pro. If you dont have the cash for the amp deaden the door get a baffle or make a baffle and the later get the amp. At least get the hard part done. running the amp is easy.

That, or if the speakers have quick disconnect terminals (my sub has 'em) all you have to do is crimp a matching female quick disconnect to the wire and its plug and play. Getting them in the speaker bays, that may be difficult, I dont know if Alpines speaks are particularly deep, but I'm pretty sure when my comp set (I'll be using the Type S line) comes in I have to fabricate mounts because of depth.

If you dont feel confident in installing them yourself and you have a local shop that you have been going to, by all means have them do it. Work on the pricing for the speakers, offer a cash deal, whatever price they give you insist that is installed. If you ever have problems, they are obligated to fix it.

Now if you decide to do it yourself, just remember no guarantees on what you buy on the net and usually no returns either. I myself buy on the net and install everything myself, but then again, I have been doing this for over 15yrs, so I have a little experience. Rawdawg is right search google, you can find all kinds of stuff on how to do it yourself. You can even buy install sheets from crutchfield that show you exactly how to do it. Dont get caught up with just Alpines, look at other lines Adire, CDT, RE, or used sets like MB Quarts (I have a set if interested). Doing it yourself saves you money so you can invest on a better comp set or add an amp like you want to do.
