I have my sub facing the trunk lid. I've tried it facing the inside of the car and for me at least it didn't sound as good. So I just turned it back toward the trunk lid again.

From what I've heard/read/experienced, if you have the subs pointing towards the rear of the car, the sound reflects off the back of the inside of the trunk, which makes it sound much louder. If you point them towards the front, it's much quieter. I tried this when I had my 91 Accord, and towards the front sounded like crap and wasn't nearly as loud.

Yea a friend of mine told me this once. Also informed me that riding with the seats folded down will sound louder/better too.

pointed to the back of the car if the subs are flat against the back of your rearseat, or facing the rear seats if your subs are flat against the rear of the car...
the technical part of this has to do with sound waves....the bass is louder when it is given more distance to travel before hitting something, therefore, you want the sound to travel across your entire trunk if possible
the best possible sound, technically speaking is having your subs facing your rear seats, having them against the far end of your trunk, and then putting the seats down...then the sound waves will travel through the entire car
of course, also theoretically, this only works to a poinrt- after a certain amount of distance, the sound waves will begin to get smaller

If anyone decides to run there subs facing foward, you will need to do one thing. You will need to seal off the the point of where the subs are facing. In other words, if you subs are facing foward directly behind your seat, you will need to seal everything off from behind the seat so that the waves from the subs dont go into the trunk. The reason for this is to avoid bass cancellations which all of you are experiencing when you tried you subs facing foward. what happens is that waves are going into the trunk reflecting and coming back at you but is cancelling out the waves that are going directly at you. If you open your trunk it will eliminate the reflection and you will notice that it sounds real good and loud until you close the trunk again. Facing your subs foward benefits you for a more accurate bass response, less delay. Facing them to the rear will be louder by 3-6 dbs but will increase delay response. Facing the rear is the easy way to go until you are ready to seal off you trunk.

I've got a relatively small box, and to keep the dumb thing from sliding around I set it on its back, therefore pointing up. That didnt sound half bad... I'm trying it point-forward-set-back now, ill post the comparison results.

mine sounds better facing to the front. my freind has a mic that mesures db's and i gained 3db's. my box is sealed from the rest of the trunk and i also think it sounds better becuase the air is going directly into the car and its not in the trunk. now that i have my subs sealed from the trunk my inside pillars vibrate alot but it doesnt annoy me becuase at high volumes you cant hear it. i love it. i got the dynamat on my trunk lid becuase i had it there when my subs weren't sealed from the trunk. i might take it off becuase i dont need it anymore

Sealing your rear deck and behind the seats so that the trunk is a seperate chamber from the cabin. Think of it as putting a wall in a room to make two rooms.
