2000 Avalon Security System

I have a 2000 Avalon XLS that seems to electrically be dying one piece at a time. My alarm does not work at all. Remotes work and even tested them at Toyota to make sure they agreed. Anyone else have this trouble. It sounds to me that I may need to replace the computer. That is going to run a good $250. I can open the car with my key just fine, but I would rather us the remotes. If my kids are playing in the car and I lock it, the alarm will go off when they open the doors. (I don't do that in the middle of the summer by the way, for some reason they love to play in my car!).

If you have any suggestions or know what could be the problem just reply. Thanks!

Check the battery, it sounds like it may be dying, as it can't seem to hold a charge while not started. You should NEVER have to replace the computer unless the car got struck by a fallen power line or lightning.

This is straight from the factory and it has been out of commission for about a year maybe a year and a half. I wouldn't think the battery would be the issue since I have never had any trouble starting the car............of course I don't know why this remote system isn't working either!!! If the alarm works, the little red light still flashes to show the security system is on, I don't understand why the remotes won't work. Again it isn't the batteries on the remote either. I had it tested at Toyota and when my remote quit working I tried my spare and the same thing happened. It is in the system itself. That is why I figure it's in the computer. Is there a fuse??

Lots of fuses in the panel on the drivers side and under the hood, but I can't seem to identify if there is one in particular that operates the alarm system, especially the remote. Any ideas?

personally, I would go with an aftermarket system...more options for your car, and some that your car never had....plus better insurance deductable

I think going that route (aftermarket) would make more sense than replacing a $250 computer. If I could get the deal where my car will start when I push a button and don't have to go out in the snow to get the defrosters going that would be a huge plus!!

This one is awesome, but make sure to have a good qualified alarm tech install it, I hear it's a 4 hour job.
