ive seen alot of people that make custom rings to fit round speakers in there oval openning. why is that? do round speakers produce better sound or something???
I would disagree with you on that one. i would run all of them to an amp. there is no reason to run it to the deck, even if it is just filler. Due to the fact that the front will be amplified, it will sound distorted when the volume is increased. and considering amp prices, its not going to make a big difference.
but yes round is better, you get a crisp sound.

it is done for the options, as much as the sound. you have more coices for 6 1/2s than you do for 6x9s. I used a pair of kicker 6x9 midbass free air subs....they don't make them anymore... for my rear...sounds great, but the next oes will have to be 6 1/2"
yea i might change my 6x9 to 6.5. im doing a custom rear deck that will hold the 2 6.5 and a croosover.
I actually put the component tweeter in the rear c pillars...looks sweet. crossover was hidden, the only crossovers I ever left exposed were the MTX thunder 5000 ones...liked the raw look with them, but they were in the glovebox
one thing to keep in mind/take note of....you dont see super high end oval speakers...i dont see them....maybe im just not looking in the right place
as for rear fill...i turn it up too loud for it to even matter what ive got back there...they could be disconnected for all i care...its all on how loud you listen to it....

How do you figure the sound will be distorted? If only the front speakers are amped then the decks volume will not need to be turned up as loud for it to reach the preferred volume setting.
Are you familiar with staging, imaging and time alignment? Having the rears powered as much as the fronts is going to screw it up even more than having them just being ran off the headunit. For best imaging, time alignment and staging it's best to not have any rear speakers at all. Look at a few competition installs(SQ not SPL) 99% of the people have no rear speakers.
As I said before, the only good use for rear speakers is for an Audio/Video setup where you will be playing movies with surround sound. And even then you will need at least a 4.1 or 5.1 surround sound proccesor(5.1 if a center channel speaker is being used, but most surround processors are 5.1)
I say take out the back speakers, use that 4 channel amp to run it active or bridge it to give more power to the FRONT components.
Ever go to a concert and listen to the music with your back to the stage? It don't sound right, same goes for a car. Concentrate on the front components, that's where the biggest improvemnt to the stereo will be made.

yes i am familar with that, and i know that competition doesnt use rear speakers, but i never said to amplify the rears at the same level as the front.
i have read many of your posting and agree with you almost all of the time, but for a crisp sound, you need to have the rear filler amplified.
? what are you running?

Everyone has their own opinion for what sounds good to them, imo I think it sounds best with none.
What I'm trying to express is that if you have a 4 channel amp and good quality front components that can handle a good amount of power, then the overall quality of the sound will be best if you
A.Bridge the 4 channel amp to send more power to the front components,
B.Run the components active off the 4 channel amp(if you have the neccesary crossovers on the headunit or the amp, or electronic crossover available, or biampable passive crossovers)
C.Get a stronger(150watts RMS+) amp for the front components instead of a lesser powered 4 channel amp.
If you feel you need to have rear speakers, then I agree with you, you'll enjoy it better with the rear speakers amped as well.
I just try to rec to first build up your front components and concentrate on better components up front and to send them the most power. The rear speakers shouldn't even be heard if you have a good clean front stage.
Stock right now, untill the dash kit comes out for the truck.
I've had alot of systems in the past, Speakers-I've used Boston coaxials(4" for the 88 supra-sucked but were better than cerwin vega 4", Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1(ok, but Harsh tweets and lacked midbass), Image Dynamics Chameleons-NICE(price is good too 250-270$) I've listened to alot of other stuff in systems I've installed for friends. Most recently DLS Iridiums powered by DLS A3
I've had oldschool Hifonics amps, Rockford, Kicker, JBL, The most recent amps were the JL 300/4(bridged to the front chameleons) and a 500/1 to 2 JL 12W3V2 in a JL box.
Headunit's I've had the Pioneers and have been very happy with them. I'd try Alpine but never got around to it.
As for the system I have planned
For the headunit I'm debating on going with the Eclipse AVN5495 or going a completely different route and doing a carputer with a 9" Xenarc or Lilliput VGA TFT. I have the perfect dash for the 9" screen. It would have everything the AVN had and some. Right now I'm trying to read as much on it as I can. In the meantime I'll probably get an Eclipse 8053.
For the front components I'm going with the DLS Iridium 8.3
I'm thinking about going with Zed Audio amps right now. They're coming out with a baddass 6 channel amp called LEVIATHAN This is going to be setup to power the front 3 way's active. (gains will be carefully set )
For subs I'll be running 2 Image Dynamics IDMAX12, powered by the Zed Kronos. The 4 channel amp will be bridged sending each sub 700 watts RMS.
The interior will be completely matted using eDead v1.se. Up to 4 layers in the front doors and at least 2 layers the rest of the cab of the truck. Ensolite foam and carpet juke padding is going to be added to block some roadnoise. Edead v.3 will be applied to the back of the door panels, rear panels, pillar covers. The roof will also be matted with eDead and a layer or ensolite foam or two between the headliner and roof.
For wiring either Knukonceptz or I want to try making my own RCA's, sounds easy enough.
Oh and no back speakers

Im glad someone around here knows what they are talking about...if youve got well positioned front components...once you turn it up, the rear speaker sound is negligable...i used to think i needed to amp the rears until i took my JL75x4 and took out my crossovers, hooking up two channels to front tweets, two to the front kicks, used crossover on the amp, and hooked the rears to my headunit
....my sound quality/quantity went up drastically.
I was also in a truck...and could barely hear the rears neway....
