I bought a neo ion iPod adapter from www.mp3yourcar.com awhile back for my car. So now my iPod takes place of the cd changer. After using it and seeing my friends show interest in it I have come to the conclusion that in a few years cd changers will be obsolete and everyone will be using iPods or other digital music players. Young people really seem to want this and for car companies to think they are still going out and buying actual cd’s is foolish.
Are you saying that you don't actually buy CDs anymore?? I don't know if I could live without CDs. Don't get me wrong, I have tons of MP3's and Oggvorbis files, but they come from CDs. Personally, listening to peoples shxt quality MP3 rips make me sick to my stomach. I like the idea of personal audio players, but to think they will replace hard media is just foolish. Just my $.02
[I think you have to have a stereo that is compatible for the new formats....basically MP3, WMA, Ogg, AAC...if your CD player can't at least read those and have an aux in jack....your in trouble. HD's won't replace CD's at this point, not for awhile....but buying hella expensive CD equipment right now is kinda a waste
i cant say that i think it will be. I think that in the next 5 years we will see mp3 capabable cd players become standard. Having a hard drive in the car only for music will add to tech hassales that alot of people want to avoid. I can see it becoming a option, for a music keg type thing. Aux in should be standard, ive already seen it on a couple of cars

They must be burning low quality mp3’s - you shouldn’t even notice a difference.
I kind of like the flash memory idea. Saves space, the media is RW, and the space for bling increases due to the lack of a need for a disc motivator or vibration/shock compensation. Plus on a flash card, you can update firmware, upload animations or EQ settings, or take information from the head unit and upload it to compatible amps (who knows why you would want to do that.) CDs will be in for a long time (though, cassettes were also the wave of the future at one point) I think, and Ipods will turn out to be the slap-bracelet/Pog/neon-colors fad of the '00s. Small, easy to use, and sexy, but yes low output and about-standard SQ. Little room for personalization (believe me, someone has the same color as you) and HOLY FREAKING EXPENSIVE. Plus theres that battery memory issue.. did that ever get fixed?
(personally, I am a NOMAD/Creative fan.. by the way)

im not terribly sure. i do think that mp3 players are the way of the future. there will be other standards that will come out and have much better quality. But i cant get over the ability to plug in my DJ in the car and then unplug snap in the phones and keep listining, cant beat it

solid state memory is the way to go now ... no moving parts, and the cost per gig is dropping.
you can find a 1GB CF card for 40-50 bucks now.
3 years ago, my cousin installed a "phatbox" in his car .. basically, interfaces with the CD changer on his factory headunit, but it is a 20gb harddrive. not too bad ... you can sort em to seem like cds.

definitely true - i hate the quality on downloaded songs...but once i buy a CD i rarely listen to it...many CDs i own have never been put into a cd player. they go directly onto my ipod, and from there to my car or wherever i take it

Most of the time, yes, but I have great results with the FM modulator cradle on my Sirius SIRPNP-1 and my Belkin Tunecast II. Line in is the best but not too many units have it. I had an AIWA MP3 receiver years ago that did though...
well i never claimed that it had great CD-like quality...i just mentioned that an FM modulator is exactly what you said u wanted...an audio input to your stereo that is simple.
I have had bad experiences with wireless transmitters, and i never use mine...the wired modulator i have now sounds pretty good actually...the quality is not CD quality, but unless im in the mood to blast the music i really dont mind the difference in quality. then again, not all modulators sound as good as the one i have...
Maybe your downloading low quality mp3’s or your not using a good adapter - lots of factors but I can’t tell the difference with the unit I have and I work in car audio. In order to really tell a difference you would need to spend a few grand on a system that consists of only high end equipment. I doubt your going to hear a difference with a stock system but if your trying to find problems I am sure you will.
