DVC Ohmage "?"

simple question. I would spam it on someone elses thread, but w/e. I read up on different ways to link DVC subwoofers.. when you narrow a dvc (4ohmx2) sub to two ohms, the output on the amp increases.. but is there a degredation of sound quality or volume?

Not really. Depends on the amp and what you're powering.. but generally no.

We're looking at the Alpine SWS-1242D 300-900w sub, and likely the Alpine MRD-M301 Amp. The sub is 4ohm DVC (4+4) and the amp is rated at about 350wrms @2ohms. Stock Alternator (weak!) and Alpine's CDA-9847 HU as the brains of the operation.

the power teh amp sends to the sub will be greater because of less resistance, in turn it definately has the ability to be louder with more watts, the degration of sound quality would depend on the amp and the sub, the sub might not be able to handle the watts the amp sends it at a lower Ohm

the amp and sub you have listed should be fine at 2 ohms, im assuming 300 is RMS and 900 is max

You won't hear the difference on that setup.

theres no reason to not wire your subs down to the lowest ohm rating your amps can handle (assuming you arnt overpowing your subs)

you get the most out of your amp
and the lower the ohms the louder it will be

....just dont put a one ohm load on a two ohm stable amp...

*sniff sniff* whats that smell??

dual 4ohm voice coils can be wired to 2, 4 or 8 ohms.

You can get either 2 ohm or 8 ohm out of one 4 ohm DVC sub depending on how you wire it.

A dual 2 ohm can be wired to get 1 ohm or 4 ohm depending on how it is wired.

Everything changes when you use more than one sub.

^ Agreed.

Dual 4 ohm wired in parallel = 2 ohm.

Dual 4 ohm wired in series = 8 ohm.

Only way to get 4 ohms is to run each coil individually, which is not recommended.
