SPL is sound pressure level (volume basically) and SQ is sound quality. Some do one better than the other.

subs are subs, but people then say which are good for what. spl subs are typically used by those that participate in db drags, or those that love loud bass.

an "sq sub" may be just as loud, but will sound better and thats why its considered an sq sub, howver to my knowledge no sub is marketed as being particular to either of the classifications

SPL= a big fart that makes girls long hair move
SQ= music that sound so realistic, you thought the band was playing in your car.
SQL = best of both worlds, but instead of making her hair move, makes her wet.

has more to do with the enclosure than with the sub. the frequency response plays a big part in it. i have a ID MAX 12", now i have it in a 1.35 cuft seeled box which optimizes sound quality. If i were to put it in say a 2.5 cuft box tuned to 32 hz, it would be a spl machine.

the kicker solo square subs are considered spl subs for the most part due to the fact that they have more cone area which can move more air, which in turn produces more spl. if you dont understand the difference, plug your ears, if you can feel the pressure, thats spl.

BTW, loud is a loose term, loud can refer to playing music loud at high levels, or how well it can play at high levels.... etc....

Sorry but tuned to 32Hz, would not make it an spl box. Maybe tuned to 40-45 hz with a port area of of 36" and making it as big as you can would make it an SPL enclosure.

you have a ported enclosure tuned to its optimal setting for that sub based from Image Dynamics recommendation. good for SQ and SPL, I built the same enclosure tuned to 28Hz, it got really loud and maintain excellent SQ, I switched to to 2 maxes sealed in 1.5^ft ea, same output, but no delay from port, gives me a tighter cleaner sound with the same output.

wat do u mean tuned at 30hz. how do u do it. do u just move the nobs on the amp to the 30hz or wat ever number u want.on my crossover i have the ability to change the frequncies from 250hz-45hz. when i put it closer to 250hz i can hear mids coming from the subs but when i move it closer to 45hz i dont hear it anymore but theres less bass. where is it suppose to be cuase ive been trying to get the most from my subs and sometimes it sounds with more bass at lower volumes then at high volumes.

boxes, depending on how they are built, play certain frequencies louder than others
say box "a" plays 40 hz louder than any thing else you would say box "a" is tuned to 40 hz

you shouldnt be putting 250hz to your subs...your midrange drivers should be playing that ...

i wouldnt cut my sub off above 100 or so
depending on the sub

hey just asking sq_camry.. are those ID Max 12" any good? what do u think of them.. just wondering.. gonna get some subs soon and im not sure what to get for sure yet.. ive heard there pretty nice though..

also P.S. i dont want this to turn into a " oo these are the best get these" and then completely blow it out of proportion with a sub that costs wayyy too much.. lol just saying, cuz it usually happens

I'm sure your subs get plenty loud and sound plenty good but that's no real SPL setup. Personally, I think the way you have it set up is pretty good, but again, no SPL setup.

Crazy Corrolla^^^ even though the question is not to me but i say you can make any sub sound good it's all about the time you take out in making it sound good. Just about any mainstreaam line priced over $100 will get a good sound... Take in consideration the efficiency, sq or spl, and consistency of bass. Then get a chance to hear it so you can make decison. Then pick a couple so we can all argue in harmony
