3rd Generation batcap Q

Hi Nation. I have a 40 farad batcap in my car with a stock alt. I read somewhere that by having a big "juicer" like this in your car, it can drain more power than it's supposed to give?? Am I right? I mean it makes sense because a batcap is really a small battery right, so it's just like having 2 batteries in your car with a stock alt.?? It even looks like one too!!!! Would I be better off with a 1-5 farad cap?? I have a 2 AWG wire going to the batcap from the yellow top and 2 AWG for my grounds and I did do the "BIG 3" upgrade under my hood with 4 AWG. Can anyone help me on this?? Sorry if I didn't give you guys enough detail about my system but for those that kinda have an idea about what I am talking about, I thank you.

well, the battcap is like a cap bank...designed for fast charge and dischrge. It won't suck your car dry of power...though if you're using that...personally I wold go with a bigger alternator....my winter projeect if it holds out until then

Batcap is a hybrid of a cap and battery, I used one for awhile, but dumped it, my system work alot better without caps.

You have a v6 right? Look into a Highlander V6 w/tow pakage alternator. Those are 130 amps and you can probably get one pretty cheap used, or rebuilt.

OR if you want to get a really nice H.O. alternator, there is a group buy going on over at soundomain

I know by asking this, there is going to be a little debate but "should I keep my batcap??" Or sell it for a H.O. alt??? Lets just say that it will help me out a lot (my wallet) if I sold the batcap. Worth keeping?

I would sell it, and get an alternator, also an oddysey battery. Top it off with the Big 3 upgrade and you should be set. EDIT NM I see you already have those last two handled. Looks like all you need is the alternator.

Take advantage of this group buy at sounddomain. In case you missed that second link in that post above, here it is
http://forum.sounddomain.com/ubb/ult...c;f=5;t=009993

A 220 amp alternator is like 189 right now as part of the group buy.

The mr.alternator alternators are 240.00 for a 150 amp alternator.

The obvious choice is the Iraggi alternator. You can get the "amputator" 220 amps max 175 amps idle alternator for $339.00 minus 25%= 255.00

That's the way I would go. Irragi makes a very good reliable alternator.

Question should be what are you running first. I am not gonna tell you to go blow 2-300 bucks on something you dont need. Specify amp model(s)
