Alright, time for subs...

OK, I've had my current setup for almost 5 months now, and I think it is about time to step things up a little. I don't listen to much "heavy bass" music, 99% of what plays through my system is rock. What I'm looking for is a crisp sub setup, not necessarily heavy-hitting. Here is what I have right now:

Pioneer DEH-P7700MP Source Unit
Pioneer 6.5" 3-Way Speakers (180W) Front
Pioneer 6x9" 3-Way Speakers (220W) Rear

So, any ideas on what kind of subs and amp I should get would be greatly appreciated. As always, I don't have much cash to spend, so cheaper options would be favored lol. Thanks in advance.

can't say i have. As for budget, i would say around $100 for subs, and I guess I'll get whatever amp I need to power them. When I say cheap, I don't mean low quality. I just mean what would be the best for my application for the money. I'm checking out the Infinity right now...

For a bit over $100, you can grab either one Type R or two Type S 12" subs by Alpine. Type E's also go pretty cheap, but the capabilities of the E line are... lacking... Dont get me wrong they sound great, but just dont pound as hard or sound as clean as others. A "budget" option.

What's your total budget for the sub, enclosure, amp, wiring, install? Are you going to install yourself? Are you willing to make the box yourself?

Yes, I will be making my own box and doing the install myself. I like the idea of the alpines, I've heard good things about their Type-R line. My budget is about $100 for each sub, if I get two. If only one, up to $150 would work. I don't really have a price range on the amp, like I said I'll just get whatever it takes to power the sub(s). I looked at the infinity, and didn't really like what I saw. No offense, I know infinity is a great brand, just not really what I was looking for.

What I'm looking at right now is one Alpine SWS-1022D Sub.
Power Handling Capacity (Peak) : 900W
Power Handling Capacity (RMS) : 300W
Coil Height (Hvc) : 33.8mm
Cone Area (Sd) : 330 sq. cm
D.C.Coil Resistance (Re) : 1.8ohm + 1.8ohm
Electrical Q (Qes) : 0.67
Equivalent Suspension Stiffness (Vas) : 28 liters(1 cu.ft.)
Free Air Resonance (Fs) : 35Hz
Frequency Response : 30Hz - 1kHz
Gap Height (Hag) : 8mm
Impedance (Nominal) : 2ohm + 2ohm
Inductance (Le) : 2.4mH / 0.90mH
Linear Excursion (X linear) : 12.9mm
Magnetic Linear Excursion (Xmag) : 14mm
Mechanical Excursion (Peak-to-Peak) : 44mm
Mechanical Q (Qms) : 13.86
Sensitivity : 85 dB/W/M
Total Loudspeaker Q (Qts) : 0.64

Should I get one of the Alpine Mono Amps, or is there another company that would be a better choice. The alpine amps look good, but their power output is a little low for the price IMO.

Like i said, i'm not going for anything heavy, just a little something to make the bass cleaner. Right now all of my bass is coming through the 6x9s, which is excellent until I get past 30 volume, at which point I have to turn on the HPF to 80Hz. One ten is all I need, I'm not into the whole sound exhibition thing, I just want it to sound good while I'm driving down the road. Power output isn't really a concern, hell 300W peak would be fine. Haha now I'm kinda considering the pioneer 12", after all it has a 600W peak and is only $100. And the amp to power it (760W) would only run me $230, I think this would be the best deal.

Any one of those subs I linked will sound better than an Alpine. I'd go with the IDV3.

Do a search on the terms IDV3 or ID12V3 on these forums and see what people have to say.
