Ok folks, here's the deal. I have an '05 Tacoma Prerunner with the factory Toyota sound system that has a single disc player in the dash. My question is, I would like to purchase the factory Toyota in dash 6 disc changer, and the unhelpful people in parts at the dealer have absolutely no idea if its a "plug and play" installation. I would think that if I remove the existing sound system, the factory changer system should pretty much bolt right in and plug right in, right? Just for clarification, I am NOT speaking of the JBL system, but the base Toyota system. HELP!!
It will NOT fit because those 3-in-1 w/6-disc indash is a PREAMP deck only, and you will need the rest of the harnesses to connect to the OEM JBL amp. Your unit now has an amp built-in, and the harnesses are different. Since your Prerunner didn't come OEM amp'ed, it's really unwise to spend all that time and money to get another factory setup, even though it could be safety issue.
Actually the non-JBL with the indash 6 disc does have a built in amplifier(that's what I have). Only the JBL cd player has the external amp. However the Tundra with the 6 disc Non-Jbl system does have an external amplifier.
So, if I understand you correctly, the OEM Toyota system has a built in amp with the disc player and the disc changer as well. Do you think the wiring harness is the same for both? I'm nervous to buy the changer, since the dealer tells me it's non-returnable and non-refundable. I really like having the in dash changer. It's not nearly as distracting as messing around with discs while you're driving down the road. BTW, your ride is really awesome looking! Nice!!
Hey how much is the dealer charging you for the CD player? I'll sell you mine if you can wait a few months, or I might be willing to do a trade plus cash, then if it doesn't work we can trade back.
Local Toyota dealer offered me the brand new unit which includes the radio, disc changer, and the entire front dash trim plate for $400. Again, it's the Toyota factory unit, not the JBL system. I have the feeling the unit should be plug and play. If we can come to a worthwhile agreement, I may be interested. Even though, a brand new unit from the dealer does appeal to me....
So, if it's just a "2-in-1" with an in-dash CD changer, but without a cassette, then the amp is built-in...interesting...good to know. Of course, they have to take something out add something in, makes sense.
