Radar Detection Suggestions

Road trip! This might not be the place to ask, but for a 1000+ mile roadtrip, I was thinking I " needed" a radar detector. Suggestions (with opinions, specs, and price ranges)?

Valentine is the best. I have a Escort Passport 8500. I love it. Gotten me out of at leat 5 tickets and I've only had it a year. I couldn't and still can't afford Valentine One. Most of the Escort Passports (even old ones) work fairly well. You could even get a Passport 7500 and it would work okay. Depends on your budget. I've heard bad things about Whistler and Cobra.

the passport 8500 or the valentine one are the way to go.

i have the V1 and love it. the arrows are great for judging the importance of the threat and knowing exactly where it is. ive had mine for several yrs and the second it starts beeping i already know where he is.

It's kind of weird, but since I got rid of my radar detectors several years ago I haven't got any speeding tickets, and I still speed.

My friend has a Valentine 1 and he has still got a couple speeding tickets.

Thing is. If your going to speed. You don't lead the pack.... I don't leave a wide open space between me and another car in the fast lane because if the Cop has a POP radar it is "instant" and the by the time the detector detects it, it will be too late. That's probably how he got caught. If you follow behind another speeder and he gets beamed by the radar then the detector will go off and warn you to slow down. If you are in front you're screwed.

ive had my detector (V1) since 2002 if im not mistaken. i speed every day and have gotten zero tickets.

bear in mind no detector will offer sufficient protection from laser. luckily for me there is no laser detectors here yet.

Exactly. That's why they go so crazy when they detect laser. It's pretty useless unless its detecting the person in front of you.

From what I heard. They only pay for the ticket if you were going 10mph or less over the speed limit.
