Using 8 ohm speakers in a car

I've been looking into some different options for components and speakers for cars and ran into this forum. http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/index.php Pretty cool stuff there. You can build a component speaker set from home audio and highend companies like Seas, Scan Speak, Morel, Vifa, etc... for less than most decent car component set's, and have MUCH better sound for alot less money.

This thread right HERE explains the benefit of using 8 ohm drivers.

For an example of a lowpriced DIY components you can use an LPG 25nfa, with a Seas L18RNX/P Mid. It would end up costing ~190 plus shipping.
http://www.diymobileaudio.com/store/store.html LPG-25 each.

Now keep in mind you need to use an active crossover, from either the headunit if it's adequate or from the amplifier, or from an electronic active crossover. And typically a 4 channel amp for the component set(one channel to each speaker), or a seperate tweeter amp and a seperate Midbass amp.

A couple of different headunit's that are capable of handling these crossovers are the Pioneer Premier DEH-P860MP, DEX-P9/DEQ-P9, higher end Alpine headunits, cda-9853,9855 is a good choice, Eclipse 8 series headunit's with promode. Clarion's DXZ955MC,DRZ9255,

I like the Pioneer for the price out of those, but an Eclipse or Clarion, is nice if you have the money.

cam, dude you are just reading up on everything, well I am glad someone here is getting educated, people learn from this guy. So are you going to go DIY comp set? Keep in mind that home speaks, like scans, are not designed for the outside world, ie, moisture, so you will have to protect those bad boys somehow if you put them in the doors but as you know the Alpine F series comps are just scan speaks with a slight tweak to them. Your other option is to build you own set of crossovers as well, but the active route is better IMO.

Knail-alot of subs come in 8ohm configs that is no biggie, but why in the hell would anyone want an 8 ohm 6x9?

Oh yeah, definitely going active. I'm planning a carputer setup and I'm going to utilize a Behringer DCX2496
http://www.behringer.com/DCX2496/index.cfm?lang=ENG

I can use the computer program incar and adjust acordingly in the car at the same time

I'll probably be going with the Fountek NeoPRO5i or the NeoCD3 if I don't bring myself to paying rediculous amounts of money for a tweeter.

The NeoCD3.0 are only about 80 bucks each.
http://www.fountek.net/ I'll probably get those though first to see how I like them, then if I get the bug, I'll get a nicer one.

I hear good things about the LCY ribbons.

For the Mid I'm probably going with the Seas Excel, Reference, or ????

I agree.

I've explained ohms law many many times.

By the way I have 2 8ohm svc subs. And I also have a JL Audio 12W5-D8 (dual 8 ohm).

My friend has 4 JL Audio 12W3v2 (dual 2 ohm). Their wired in parallel / series for 4 ohms total.
