subs are quiet

i just installed 2 10 inch subwoofers running on a kenwood kac 7201 amp.... everything works and everything but it just seems a little quiet for 2 10s... do you guys have any suggestions? did i do some wiring wrong? should i play around with the switches on the amp?

thanks

i got 2 10s sony xplods as a gift soo i decided to put it in..... but they are pretty disappointing at the moment.... the amp is 2 channel and it puts out 2 X 230...... ... soo thats like 230 per channel... and the subs are rated at 250 rms... the way i wired my amp is ..... positive from sub to positive to amp ... and negative to negative...... is that the way to do it? or is there another way to get more power out of my amp?

thanks

Most Sony subs suck....Mine don't but most of them do....What kind of subs do you have SupraT? What kind of deck? Do you know the output and Voltage of the deck? Have you adjusted the gain controls on the amp? Most amps don't kick out what they claim. Especially if they're cheap. CamXrunner may be able to help you better. But you may have crappy subs. There are other ways to wire but that's how most ppl do it unless you have a mono amp. There are a few diferent ways to wire depending on what OHM you want to use.

right now i have a feeling that i am only putting out 2 X 150 at 4ohm.... and not the 2 X 230 @ 2ohm i want..... i think theses are like the bottom of the line subs.. but i still expected a little bit more from them.....

With the setup that you have, it sounds like it's working at 2ohms. But either the gains are low, the sub output on the deck may be low, or the speakers are super crappy. What kind of power wiring are you using for the amp?

BTW: No need to double and triple post.

We need more details about your subs. Are they Single Voice Coil or Double? I'm guessing single. Secondly, how many Ohms are they rated at?

Refer to this chart and check your connections.
http://www.jlaudio.com/tutorials/wiring/index.html

Once you've ruled that out as the problem, check your amp settings. Increase the Gain and adjust the freq cut off accordingly.

Failing that, check your source. Did you connect the right RCA (lo vs hi) to the amp?

Yeah.....what phi said

There should be control dials on the back of the amp. Does your deck have control settings for the amp output?

the subs are rated at 4 ohm with 700 watts max and 250 rated input power...
i don't think the deck has controls of the amp..... have to check the manuals....

i think they have one set of speaker connections on the back

does it make a big difference if the RCA cables are connected to the front or the rear outputs? just wonder.... cuz that could be the problem

If they are sony's and they are as cheap as you are saying they are.....Then the RMS is probably really somewhere around 100 RMS and 3-400 Peak. Sound-wise. Sony lies terribly about their output. Yeah. a model number would help a little.

EDIT: nevermind the model number.
