5 questions before laying my RAAMmat down

Tomorrow is the day i will be laying my matt down. A few questions i'd like anwsers to b4 i start.

1- What is the best way to lay matt around objects that poke out? ie: The white clips that attach the actual door handle. Pic below....

2- How do I fill the big open gaps in the door before putting on matting? Or do I even need to? Pic below....

3- What's the best way to locate holes that screws go into after laying matt down?

4- What's the best cleaner (inexpensive) for cleaning the tar- like substance that once held the plastic weather strip to the door?

5- Would you matt under the metal structure piece that the storage comparment/jump seats are on? Both on top of it and inside? Pic below...

1. I just lay it over them, and as soon as I lay it over I use a razor and just trim around it.

2. It is recomended to cover those holes, there are a couple of different ways to go about doing it. You can get a piece of tin or thick aluminum and cut to the shape of the hole. Cut it a little bigger than the actual hole. Cover one side of it with raammat then place it over the hole on top of the already matted door. That way you don't have metal against metal, rather two layers of mat against each other. Then cover the piece with raammat so that you overlap the tin piece with raammat. It might be a good idea to use some liquid nails or caulking glue between the tin peice and the door for added measure.

3.Before lying the mat down identify all screw holes and either work around them, or remember where they were right after you lay down the mat and cut away the mat for the holes.

4. I used diluted simple green with good results, just remember to wipe it with a wet rag after using the simple green. You don't have to worry too much about the tar that's there from the plastic barrier, just mat over it, take off the big chunks.

5. Yes, definitely.

You really ought to look into some ensolite foam or volara foam off ebay. It will cut down on the road noise. The raammat is mostly for stopping panel rattles.

Here's another good info thread.

I'd only use carpet padding under the carpet. If it get's wet it will soak up water, mildew will start to grow.

For the doors you want to use ensolite foam. Rick @ raammaudio sells it cheaper than anywhere else.

On the doors I'd say about 15 sq ft each door would be enough.

You want to lay that over the matting, then have the foam in between the panel and the door. That will help with cutting down road noise and will act as a buffer between the door panel and the door itself from rattling against each other.

I', also going to use a paint on deadener on the back of the panels.

I removed the clips and cut the holes with an exacto knife and popped them back in, other wise , you might get some vibration off those clips and will have to remove your panel sometime down the road.
