Which Subs?

Deciding between a few loaded enclosures and decided what I want. Right now I have three Alpine Type R 12"s that im selling. I am using the MTX MXA8001 amp, its birthsheet rates it at 867Watts at 2ohms. (mono amp).

Pros and cons of my different Options. Money is not an issue.

Loaded Enclosure with 2 MTX 5512 12" subs in a dual-slotted Sledgehammer enclosure
Pros: Sound good, in my opinion, and could plenty of power with my amp.
Cons: Each sub is 600W Peak, and I'll be pushing 430W to each one. Kinda risky...

Loaded Enclosure with 2 MTX 7512 12" subs in a dual-slotted Sledgehammer enclosure
Pros: 400W RMS and 800W Peak, so pushing 425W to each one is ideal.
Pros: Much deeper and solid bass than the 5512's.
Cons: Very heavy box...will slow down my car much more than my current setup.
Cons: It takes a big amp to push these subs efficiently - when we hooked up a Kicker 600.1 to it the subs were not efficient. I'm wondering if my MTX MXA8001 is going to be enough power.

Loaded Enclosure with 2 Kicker CompVR 12"s in ported Kicker enclosure
Pros: Louder, deeper bass.
Cons: In order to use my 80% discount, it will take 6-8 weeks to arrive. I dont really want to wait that long.
Cons: I've seen several Kicker amps and subs blow recently, even when wired and tuned properly.

One Alpine Type R 12" (sell the other two) in a ported box.
Pros: I save a lot of weight, save a lot of space in my trunk, and I don't have to buy anything.
Cons: I'm not sure if 867Watts RMS is going to be too much for my Type R (350W RMS, 1400Peak; they are not the new ones...)

How about two Ascendant Audio Atlas 12's or 15's. they're only 100, and 105 bucks.

www.ascendantaudio.com

It would work perfect with your amp, probably have to turn it down a bit.

well youll probably consider me stubborn or ignorant for saying this, but i will anyways. although i'm sure they are great subs, and i have heard good things about them here on the forums, i really dont want to purchase anything that i havent heard in person, and i dont have any local retailers that carry those subs. I want to stick to what I've personally heard.

Also if I purchase the Kicker or MTX subs, i will get an 80% discount. That means that if i ever decide to sell my system i can make more money off of the subs than I paid for them...so i'm never in a position where I lose money

What ohm configuration are the type-r's?

How about this Idea, Mount them infinite baffle into the rear deck. Alot less weight.

Not sure if those are good free air subs though.

The type-r's are Dual 4ohms subs. Right now I have each sub run in series (making it 8 ohms) and then run in parallel on the amp to present a 2.67 ohm load to the amp.

I have a general idea...but what exactly is infinite battle? is that just a free air setup mounting them to the rear deck? I will say that i dont want to mount them anywhere visible. I'll be living in Wilmington in a couple months, and Wilmington is the #1 city in America for theft. I'm trying not to let people know i have a system

yea that'd be cool - keep in touch with me on the forums...we'll meet up sometime.

Another option is a Kicker L5 in a ported box....

anyone have any suggestions?

Honestly I think the MTX's or the Kickers would be a downgrade from what you have.

Have you ever listened to an IDMAX? That will work well with your 867 watts. Their known as one of the best SQ subs. And with 867 watts that thing will be loud.

But I would probably stay with the 3 alpine's personally, if not the IDMAX.

i love the type-r's...but for one, theyre not too efficient, so with only 867W im not getting their full potential. plus theyre running on 2.7ohms, and i would get more power from my amp if i had a 2ohm load. i'm pretty fixed on choosing between these options...although i'm also considering a Polk package with two DB 12"s...im gonna find out more about the specs though
