USA Aftermarket Remote Starter

We recently bought a 2005 Land Cruiser. It replaced a 1998 4Runner that had a Factory Remote Starter on it. The Land Cruiser did NOT come with one, nor is one available from Toyota (according to the Parts Dept.) We LOVED it on the 4Runner, because on hot days, we could start the car and get the AC started, and the kids wouldn't be sitting in a hot car while we were loading groceries, etc...

Has anyone insalled an aftermarket remote starter? Any reccomendations/avoids? I found one website that also sells a module to bypass the moter cutout - I presume this will be necessary.

ANY help would be appreciated, since Toyota has been NO help. I don't want to just trust the local auto-installer's opinion...

Thanks.

I've had success with DEI remote starter units before. It's fairly easy to tap into existing factory alarm without too much of a hassle. However, you will need an immobilizer (transponder) bypass as all Toyotas have built-in immobilizers since '99. DEI has the bypass module, so you'll need both units to work together. If you are satisfied with your factory alarm, a basic remote start w/immobilizer bypass should cost about $150 UNINSTALLED.
