Hi, Im planning on upgrading my sound system for my 2003 camry SE (v6 w/ the jbl sound system) and have some questions. Ive been blasing my stock system and you can now hear some buzzing sound from both sides when the volume is up, so i guess its time to replace.
Is it easy to swap out the speakers, meaning is it just unplug old ones and plug new ones in, or should i just pay Circuit city or Best buy to install it?
The current rear speakers provide good bass, so if the new speakers provide good sound, would it be wise to not add an amp and sub?
Thanks

Yeah they use 6x9's, you will have to make a mounting adapter. Something very similar to this.
I'd reccomend using 6.5" round speakers. If you want to stay with coaxials check out the Pioneer Rev series(yellow ones) those are pretty good for running off the headunit. I had those in my old camry in the rear deck until I went without rear speakers. I liked them better than the front Infinity Kappa Perfects (bleh)
I think all 5th gen. come with 6x9's all around. My 02 had a tweet on the dash & a 6x9 mid in the door. The rear deck sports 6x9's as well.To replace all the speakers will require some modification.I recently bought some kicker 6x9's for my rear deck & saw that it will need a baffle b/c the holes from the speaker & the deck itself dont line up.As for the fronts ,the door speakers are all one piece, meaning that the baffle & the speaker itself is a one piece unit.A baffle will have to be made to install a aftermarket 6x9 .If u go with a round speaker(6.5's or 5.25's)u can use the original plastic baffle, just cut out the speaker part itself then make a MDF baffle for the round speaker & attach to the plastic(OEM) baffle. If u dont want to change ur HU u can get a 'Line Out Converter',which u can hook up wires from the HU to the LOC then u can run some RCA's to the amp(s).Now if u want to add sub(s),that would be up to u.Some ppl are happy with just their cabin speakers & some want alittle more omf in their music.Just remember if u go at it urself it will take some work & in the end it will be satisfying knowing u did it urself.
If i do upgrade the front speakers, can i upgrade to an amp and sub in the future if i wanted to, also keeping the stock head unit.
Coaxials means all in one speaker, tweeter and mids. A component system uses seperate tweeters and mids.
I always rec. component speakers, but only if adding an amp too. If you are going to use the stock deck or an aftermarket deck to power the speakers you are most likely better off with coaxials.
If you want to eventually upgrade then I would suggest just saving up and doing it right the first time. No point of buying speakers, then a few months later having to buy another set of speakers.
If u buy any car audio related item from Crutchfield(u must summit vehicle type),u'll get a step by step work sheet(w/ actual photos) explaining how to remove everything to get everything in that vehicle.
wouldnt the REV TS-D161R, or Pioneer REV TS-D691R be sufficient speakers? I mean, if i do get an amp, itll prolly just be used to power the sub.
also, any difference between the two speaks?
Oh yeah, I though you were reffering to an amp for the front speakers.
Yeah you can add an amp for the sub, just use a line output convertor like the n-85V from www.davidnavone.com
If you are just going to keep them off the stock power either one of the Rev series speakers will work great. I rec. 6.5" because they are typically more accurate than an oval midbass.
So to upgrade my front speakers, Id just take off the door panel, swap the speakers and ill be straight?
If i go with the 6.5, ill need a bracket, if i go with the 6x9, just swap. I dont need any additonal converters/adapters/wires or doohickey, correct?
You would still need a bracket for the 6x9's too, if the 6x9 opening in your camry looks like the 6x9 opening in my truck, there's no way you can just bolt up a speaker to it, and you'll have mounting depth issues.
