UK Hurricane Ivan destroyed my radio!

Dear Toyota Owners:
My parents live in Florida and have a Toyota Camry 1997 that survived Hurricane Ivan. The back window of their Camry was completely blown out which allowed rain to soak the back seat and rear deck throughout the night of the storm. Now the radio will not work. There is power to the system, and the tape deck and CD comes on, but there is absolutely no sound.
Obviously it is the amplifier, but don't know where to start looking to fix? Any help is much appreciated!

Mark

So can you change radio stations, load tapes and CDs, etc just fine?

If the front speakers dont work either, with everything else in the system working as it should, there may be a short in one or both of the rear speakers preventing the amplifier from turning on (if the amp has this sort of protection).

To start troubleshooting I would pull out the stereo and cut the wires on the harness to the back speakers since I knew they were ruined anyways... Then if still nothing comes out, I would cut the front speaker wires and wire up some speakers that I knew were in working condition and try it again...

At this point if it didn't work I'd think that the moisture caused a short in the back speakers that damaged the amp.

I would go out and buy a new stereo and new speaker wiring and new speakers and hope the problem was solved.

But that is just what I would do....

You're in Pensacola like me too. Do you go to Bayfront? Maybe I can have a look at it
