i have heard some different input on box materials, but what is the best wood to use and what other materials are there to use. any sites out there with building instructions

its like sawdust and glue compressed into a board...this is not to be confused with particle board...which is chips of wood and glue compressed into a board
where do the wires from the sub lead out of the box

Yes, of course it matters. The dimensions are based on whats best for the sub. You can buy terminals that make it clean, or i guess drill a hole and some silecone
