Relatively cheap sub/amp combo

I've been thinking about a sub/amp combo recently. I dont want some monster sub and amp that will run at a rediculous price worth half my car. I just want clear bass with a small sub like 10" and a small amp that wont exceed the limits of the sub. I would just like to amp the sub and not all of the speakers in my car. Ive contemplated a bazooka tube but its just not in my interest and taste. I dont need top of the line equipment but something that wont break the 10th time i use it. Basically im looking for crisp mild-mid bass if you know what i mean. Anyone have any idea into what equip. i should look into? Thanks in advance

some quality amps

(some names to throw out)

elemental designs
arc audio (if you purchased an old model amp from arc audio, you can still have it upgraded by them to have it a bit more powerful etc)
zed audio
tru technology (lower line still does fine, it might be too pricey but could probably find a used one in another forum etc.)
zapco (probably too pricey unless you can find a used one on ebay or other car audio forums, and if i remember correctly, there is a audio forum on zapco's webpage)

Diamond D3400.2 ~160 shipped off ebay

ID12V3D2 ~150 shipped

or
DAYTON 10" TITANIC MKIII
http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=295-414

Then build a box if you can, or buy one for 50-75 bucks, wiring would be about 30-40 bucks.

If you want to spend less, you can look into an Infinity Reference Sub, you can pick those up for like 50 bucks.

There's a world of a difference between $300 and $500 buddy. A couple people have mentioned Elemental Designs, so I'm going to keep with it and recommend a couple things for you to give you an idea of what you could potentially be getting:

(1) eD 11 Ov.2 subwoofer (dual 2 ohm)
(1) eD NINe.2 amp

Buy them together and it'll be $331.50 after 15% off with free shipping. The Ov.2 line is a tremendous sonic creation and it has drawn comparisons to even the IDMAX in terms of sound quality. Don't worry if you have no idea what this means -- the few car audio buffs on this forum will tell ya it's a very good thing. I know a couple folks who have Ov.2 (the bigger 12" model though) and have heard them myself. I was extremely impressed and hence that's why I am recommending it to you as a possible option. The Nine.2 amp is a 2-channel amp that puts out 400w x 1 at 4 ohm bridged. The 11 Ov.2 takes about 450 w safely, so you should be fine. Perhaps later on down the road, if you wish to expand your system, you can get another 11 Ov.2, get another amp to power those and use the Nine.2 to power a pair of components. Just some food for thought....

Now there are plenty of other options that I can conjure up, but for $360 ish (you're going to need to build a box), you can rest assured that in talking to a couple guys on here and doing some research on your own, you can get some great stuff.

Hope this helps.

-Ray

That'd be a sick combo too. Just be sure to check the wait on the backordered subs and see if you don't mind waiting that long though.

well right now im trying to get these subs from Eye8, seems like a good deal, if he ships them. I only want one in my car so ill either sell the second to a friend or keep it for a spare, then i need a box and wirirng and an amp. So if i estimate shipping + sub at $120 US + ~$100 for wiring and box will be like 220 and leave me with $80 to put to an amp, i would probably need something like a 300watt amp and those arent too expensive so i could set the whole thing up for $400-500 which is nice. (im not gonna amp my speakers only the sub) so anyone now of any nice amps like that?

I really hate to bash on Eye8's subs, but in my HONEST OPINION, it's not worth it. You'd be paying $50 for the sub and $70 for shipping? Doesn't that seem a little ridiculous to you? All I know is, if I allotted $500 to buy a sub/amp combo, I wouldn't spend a fifth of it on a sub, and even less than that on an amp, and the rest on wiring/shipping/a box. That just doesn't seem cost effective to me. Granted, it IS your money and thus ultimately, your call.

If you went with one of the options that I or Cam2XRunner suggested, you're going to be a getting a world of a difference between some used entry-level Pioneers and a weak amp and with wiring/free-shipping/a box, it'll be under $500 -- I can guarantee that. It sounds to me that you haven't done a whole lot of research so you should take time in doing some of that. Nowadays, $500 is a big investment in the car audio department and I'm sure you would hate to later down the line realize that you went about buying a system in a naive manner.

For the record, I think Eye8 should just sell his subs locally to some 15 year old who goes "OOO! 12"S!!! Me want!!!" Hell, he could probably get more than $100.

Take my advice for what it's worth. If spending that sorta money to sound barely-mediocre satisfies you, then by all means, go for it. Nobody's stopping you. But do think twice.

Thanks, i have been reading up more today and realized that i jumped in way too fast. I looked up all of the suggested equip and more and have decided that the elemental designs package you suggested is what im probably going to get, but first i need to read up a little more.

I have another question, is the wiring included or do i need to buy it seperately? If i do how much will that run me ($30-$40 as i read in a previous post?) Im pretty sure i can build my own box, especially if my dad helps (we built a room in our basement together we can do this).

For all your wiring needs. Last time I checked, the 4-gauge wiring kit was around $40 (you might want to check that). You're not doing an advanced multi-amp install, so a kit will work just fine for you.
