Some of you may have noticed some of my threads as I've been researching options for a system for my car. Mostly was looking for a DVD entertainment system to keep the kids happy and for me to enjoy it. Navigation was a plus, but not necessarily needed. Here's pretty much what I've put together and I'll admit that it's a totally different package than what I had originally intended:
Alpine IVA-D310
Alpine PKG- 1000 10.2 inch Screen (doesn't include separate DVD Player)
Apline IKCA-420i Ipod Control Interface
I didn't get the Eclipse 5435 as I was originally planning mainly due to it having to be ordered and my impatience since I wanted everything done before I go on vacation. I do plan on ordering the new Alpine Navigation unit when it comes out in a few months since it too will have real time traffic updates like the AVIC- N2 (Navtraffic). Unlike the Avice N2 though I should be able to play DVDs while driving (not that I would )
I'm considering possibly the need of a rear view camera since the flipdown might block my rear view. Any recommendations for these?
Also, I'll probably be looking to upgrade my speakers with something more mainstream. I've heard some good things of Polk/MOMO, but would like to know if anyone has any experience with them or knows someone who has. Any other speaker suggestions would be welcome, but please state why.
Hope to install everything either later on today or tomorrow. I'll post pics if anyone is interested once I'm done.

AWESOME!! That Alpine System is sweet as hell. You should look into getting the PXA-H701
You can control it through the IVA-D310. From there I would go with a 4 channel amp for the front components and a 2 channel amp bridged for the sub(s)
Are you willing to continue building on the system with the stuff I mentioned or are you just looking to use speakers off the headunit's onboard amp?

I wouldn't mind doing something similar to what you stated. Of course your help would be required since you seem to know your stuff pretty well. I just usually buy what looks "purty", but I try to research it to make sure it's functionable too.
So you suggest some components for the front and bridged amp for the back. Any suggestions either on brand, wattage and such? For right now I will have to use the onboard amp until I can save up some funds again, but it's never too early to start planning.

looks great man, yeah and listen to what cam2 has got to say, he does know his shit
well i didnt read all your posts but cam2 says to get a 4 channel amp for front components?, are you planning on controlling your freqs with something other than the amp?
some good comp brands, CDT, RE Audio(which i own and like very much), Focal just to name a few, but there are many good ones

If you go with the H701 you will have the ability to run a fully active 3 way front setup and control a sub. That's what's so cool about the H701. It is insane how much proccessing power that thing has.
If you are willing to go all out, I would just use the stock speakers until you have the $ to do it right the first time.
If you don't want to spend too much money, I would just get a decent 4 channel amp and a set of components that will allow you to biamp the crossovers so you can have control over the Time alignment between the tweets and mids.
Then get a 2 channel or mono channel amp(preferably a class ab) to power the sub(s)
If you don't want a huge amount of bass, you can also use a 5 or 6 channel amp to power everything.
What kind of money from this point on are you willing to drop into it to finish the system?
Install is done and I think it looks pretty good. Have to give the credit to one of my friends for it since I probably would have fried the car. I have to admit that everything sounds a lot better than I expected.
The IVA-D310 has a separate brain that along with the iPod interface makes everything sound louder and clearer. I guess it's not really fair when comparing to the stock oem unit though. I had been worried after reading a few other posts regarding the sound quality coming from from an iPod, and about there being delays when switching playlists and such, but so far no problems. Sound quality sounds a lot better than I expected.Put the iPod adapter in my lower storage compartment.
As for how much my budget will be for the rest is kind of up in the air. I don't think I will go all out since I have to juggle the finances with my wife. She had to okay this expense (yeah, yeah, I'm whipped ). It will mostly likely be option B (or C) which is the one with a 5-6 channel amp. Won't use separate subs since I need the trunk space for the stroller.

Hi,
I'm new to this forum and this is my first posting. Anyway, I really like the Alpine HU you installed; I think I'm going to go with the same system in my 4Runner. My budget is around $2000 so I'll probably go with the PXA-H701 recommended by cam2Xrunner.
I also want to install the PAC TR-7 Alpine mobile video bypass so that it can DVD's while driving the car (for my wife and kids of course). Also need to install the PAC SWI-ALP to maintain the steering wheel radio controls.
Can you offer any installation hints / suggestions because I plan on installing the system myself. Especially with the two PAC devices... not sure how to integrate them. Is it hard?
BTW: I have a 05 4Runner with the standard JBL HU and a 5 speaker system.

Sorry about the long delay in replying, but I've been on vacation since the 6th of July and just got back. First of all I think you'd be fine with your budget. I didn't do the install myself since I'd be worried about frying my car so I had the place I bought it at install it.
I also got the PAC switch to keep my steering wheel controls and it works really good with the exception of when sunlight is hitting the front of the radio. It has a little infrared eye that from what the guy told me was a real pain to install since it was so little. From my conversation with the install guy the PAC switch is very easy to plug into the back, but the hardest part finding a place to put the infrared eye so that it could point to the head unit and send the signal from the remote.
As for the video bypass I was told about the PAC TR-7, but didn't opt for it since the shop where I was getting it done did a cheaper option which works just as fine. When I turn on the car I tap the brake and flip a little hidden switch underneath the dash and then I release the brake. It tricks the IVAD into thinking the parking brake is on and all screen features are available until I turn off the car.
That's about all the info I have now. Sorry I couldn't help give you more help with the install.
