amp and sub

Hey guys i recently installed a pioneer hu 4 alpine type s speakers and a 40x4 alpine amp to power them. Im looking into getting an amp and sub though just to complete the system. What would you recomend. I want something that will compliment the system well and take some stress off of my 6x9's. Id prefer clearity or loudness and im looking to spend around 150 for the sub if its only one either 10 or 12 not sure yet any advice on numbers or size would be awsome, and prob around 200 for two if that would be better and then whatever amp that would drive that and isnt horible expensive is fine. I went on crutchfield to ask them and they recomended an infinity perfect and an alpine amp. Ive heard infinity are good but i was thinking maybe a jl but they dont sell those. i also asked if i could just run another power and remote wire from my amp to the sub amp and he said i shouldnt daisy chain it like that and that i would have to run another seperate wire. What are your inputs on that. I know im asking alot but any help would be appriciated, thanks.

well i like what cardomain had to say.. perfects are probably your best bet for the price.. im sure there are some other brands that offer good quality too like elemental designs or Image dynamics. I recently just bought 2 10 inch Perfects for $214 really depends how much you wanna spend.. the amp is gonna cost more then the subs mostlikely if you want a good one. JL is definaltly way more expensive probably better too but.. i guess if you wanna spend more.. go for it.. also, alpine amps are really nice as well

i saw a post for the ascedant audio subs and they look really good and are in my price range and ive heard good things. Are there any stores that sell them or do you have to go to the factory in crystal lake to get them, which isnt too bad its like a 45 min drive for me but i also saw on their site that their discontinuing their old line and they have marked them down but with a limited supply i dont know how long ago they did this but if i could get the older ones for cheap that would be awsome. What do you think of these subs and or of their new ones.

I've only heard one bad thing but it could have been user error when installing, or just maybe a bad apple. Other than that they have gotten great reviews by everyone. If they are local to you then it's a no-brainer if you can pick them up.

What are your listening habits? How much are you willing to spend for an amp, box, wiring and install? Can you build your own box?

Very true. If you need a good box builder you can get ahold of Marv. http://community-2.webtv.net/MarvsPlace/MarvsPlace/

For subs, Under 150 I'd go with the ID12V3 or IDQ12, eD Kv series, Dayton Titanic http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshow...=295-404&DID=7 , Oz Audio Matrix Elite.

For an amp I'd go with a 2 channel amp that'll do around 300-400 watts rms when bridged to a 4 ohm load.

You can look into the Diamond D5300.2 and D3400.2, eD nine.2, or if you don't mind buying slightly used you can get some really high end stuff for cheap.

Ditto!

If budget is key, I'd look towards older Rockford Fosgate equipment (circa 96-99) as it tends to be really underrated and the build quality is superb.

cool i went into abt the other day just to look around and they i like the sound of the 12's the 10's didnt seem deep enough. He showed me two 12" alpine s-type subs with a jl amp and it sounded ok. But alpine isnt known for their subs and id rather go with a id or some company that knows their subs. i think my budget is going to be around 700-800 for everything and if i can find it on ebay for cheap even better. I prob can build my own box if i have instructions im pretty handy and we have all the tools and stuff. thanks for all of your advice.

For info on building the box check out this link.

A bunch of good rec's on this thread.
http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=313

If you don't mind a big sub I'd go with one IDQ15d2(DUAL 2 OHM) with about 400 watts. For an amp I'd go with a DLS A6 http://www.dls.se/english/fstark/a6n.htm

If you feel you need more bump, get a second IDQ15D2. This will give you a 2 ohm load to that amp sending about 450 watts to each sub.

The DLS A6 is a Class AB SQ amp that is stable to 1 ohm, that amp will power alot of different setups.
The DLS A6 goes for about 400 bucks. If you want to go that route, get ahold of Scott at www.buwaldahybrids.com

SQ is short for Sound Quality
SPL is short for Sound Pressure Level
SQL is basically Sound Quality with Loudness.

For example a SQ sub setup could be a single 300-400 watt sub in a sealed enclosure. Subs that work well in this situation-IDQ, TC sounds, older soundstream exacts, eD, Arc Audio 12D4 or 15D4, etc.

A SQL setup could be like a IDMAX or JL W7, etc. with closer to 700-1000 watts rms to the sub or subs. Typically in a sealed enclosure, tuned can be ok too and louder but harder to accomplish right.

An SPL setup could be 1 or more high excursion subs, with ALOT of power. Typically in a Ported enclosure for loudness. The main goal for SPL is how loud it can get.

If you are going for an SPL system I'd rec. using class D amps. They tend to be more efficient than class AB amps and will be less of a draw on your electrical system.

For SQ and SQL I'd rec. going with a Class AB amp.
