Last week I was working on my car and my neighbor found an old amp that was in his daughters camry and gave me it. Its a Pioneer Premiew GM-X412. Its old, no lie about that. Cannot get much info. I think its 4ch, but might be 2. dont know because its input and output? Also, I cannot get specs on it. I see 35x2 4ohm I tried looking online says 70x2 guess tahts peak then right? So is the 35w per front channel better than my old sony headunit 50w peak max (no idea rms).
So is it worth it hooking up my Infinity REF 6.5 fronts to it? Or dont bother, wait to wire something up maybe in the future, maybe not.
So what are you going to be powering? It would make a decent tweeter amp. Then pick up another inexspensive amp for the mids.
I was just thinking using it for my Infinity REF 6.5 fronts. Didnt want to spend more money right now on my system, but would even using it for my fronts be worth it to me?
8 gauge power wire should be fine then no? And if I upgrade to a 150-200rms amp, 8 gauge will be still okay then? 16 gauge good for the speaker wires? Thanks
Go to http://www.bcae1.com and scroll to item "16. Wire" on the right side. They have some calculators there you can play with to figure out these things if you need.
...it's worth it. Anything that puts out more power than your headunit is going to result in better sound. Not to mention, you're not going to put that added bit of stress on your headunit by using the onboard amp.... And like Cam2xRunner mentioned, it'll make for a great tweeter or midrange amp sometime later down the road if you decide to go that route.
Well I put it in today. Got some 8awg Stinger wire and monster speaker cable, Hooked it all up. That little extra added watts and able to controls the gains and such made the world of difference. Not to mention its nice seeing the speakers finally doing some excursion now without crackling and bad sound. Not to mention its already prewired for a better amp. Life is good.
