8V Preout into an amp with 6V max sensitivity

If a HU has a preout of 8V and the amp has a sensitivity of 200mV to 6V, will the speakers or amp be damaged if they are paired together? Is there any way to attenuate the signal?

So something like this line level attenuator will not be necessary?

Is the setting marked "Input Level" the gain control? The instructions say to turn this setting to the minimum and the volume on the source to the 3/4 maximum. The slowly increase this setting until it starts to distort, then decrease slightly until the distortion goes away

No that attentuater won't be neccesary. You should be fine. Just properly set the gains and you'll be good.
