Best speakers for the MK1 MR2??

I was going to get Kappa Perfects all around, but I was told that they aren't good for metal, and require an amplifier or you will fry them.

I listen to Techno (trance and gabber), metal, some rap, etc. and I need something to complement my 2 12" subs (soon to go in lol). So I guess I need good highs and mid-bass.

An amp isn't out of the question, so if there are some speakers that sound really good but require one I could go that route.

I don't want to get into kickpanels and things like that, as all my $$ is going towards my engine swap right now! So I need 3.5" and 4".

"best speakers for car X" is a VERY subjective question to ask my friend. If you're looking for a simple solution that'll sound great, I recommend a decent set of components up front and just ditch the rear fill -- especially since you have an MR2 with a smaller cabin. Of course, you're going to need a 2 or 4 channel amp to power these. Some food for thought:

RE 6.5" components www.reaudio.com and call for direct pricing
Elemental Designs eDi 6500s www.edesignaudio.com

or if you can somehow find a set of the older Adire Koda 6.1 components, that'll sound great too. What exactly is your budget? If you don't provide us with a budget, we're not going to be able to help ya out much.

Well, I didn't want components due to me wanting to keep the stock locations, which is 4" in the dash and 3.5" in the rear.

My budget for the 4 speakers and possible amp is around $500 I guess. Since this will be a show car (soon I hope lol) I want everything to be perfect!

What's the mounting depth of the 4"ers on the dash? Are you up to doing something similar to this?

The cheapest place online after a quick search was Boostcaraudio.
http://www.boostcaraudio.com/Alpine_..._p/cda9833.htm

And here, but they appear to be out of stock,
http://www.hookedontronics.com/show_...lpine_CDA-9833

The cda9853 is 250 shipped off ebay, probably the best deal for the right headunit to wire active. People say however that the '04 line of headunit's are better than the '05's. Maybe check a local shop for closeouts on them. Circuit city just dropped Alpine, so they might be closing them out.

Well, I already have a $600 head unit (22w RMS x4, as opposed to 18 in most) so I should be OK in that department.

Those look good in the doors, but I would rather not cut holes in them. The depth in the dash is said to be decent, though Crutchfield only shows one pair of 4" speakers because the magnet is shallow... so I have no idea!

Oops, I posted the headunit info on the wrong thread Meant to post that here. http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t86567.html

The MB Quart QSD 4" set is a VERY nice set. In the future you can add the 6.5" midbass and have a very nice 3 way comkponent set.

I personaly would piece together seperate pieces to make my own component set. Probably an LPG 25NFA tweeter, a 4" midrange(need to know the depth, and then a shallow mid. You'll need 6 channels of amplification though, and a good headunit.

Nice headunit. Perfect for wiring active. I'd highly suggest considering mounting some speakers in the door, if you are up to it. If not see if you can fit a 5.25" speaker in the dash.

If putting a 5" speaker in the dash is not an option, I would go with a 4" midrange in the dash.

http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/ind....14523&pid=127

Tweeters in A Pillars, LPG 25NFA are 35 bucks each.

Then if you are up to it, a shallow mount midbass in the doors.

Get a 6 channel amp to power everything. Then a smaller 2 channel for the subs(s)

I sometimes go a little overboard, so if you want something simple, look into the MB Quart 4" QSD's.

This is one of those "sometimes". Something tells me that he won't opt for a 6-channel-er, but hey ya never know.
