Well, I got back from class this morning and went downstairs to my car to go to work. I opened up my front door, but was soon to realize that it was already open. I think to myself "Hmm odd...."
And right there in front of me is a note left by the Berkeley Police Dept. At about 11:45 PM last night, somebody broke into my car and stole my headunit/4-ch Alpine amp/Razo shift knob -- amongst other things. More about that later.
Here are some pics:
I went to bed at 10:00 last night (I have class at 8 am and need to wake up at 7:00 every morning).
Based on my analysis, somebody broke into my car and somebody witnessed the crime and called the police. Hence, that's why the cops left a notice in my car. I left a voice mail with the PD earlier today to inquire about the report and to try to get more details, but so far my calls have gone unanswered. Keep in mind, my car was parked in a gated apartment complex. My windows are 5% 3M limo-tinted all the way around -- nobody can see through them during the day, let alone in the dark ESPECIALLY in a dark garage structure. I have about 2 friends that have sat in my car in the month or so I've spent up here in Berkeley for summer school -- one is a childhood friend of mine (chick) and the other being my best friend. Nobody else knew about my system, nor my address, nor even the fact that I drive a Camry. In addition, I sold my subs/sub-amp a month ago before I left for this particular reason; I didn't want to draw unwanted attention to my car with bass which might lead to theft. Since I've been up here, I almost always drive with my windows up and my old Alpine Type-R 6x9s in my rear deck aren't even close to being loud enough to draw any attention. In a nutshell, it's hard to believe that my car was simply randomly picked out to be burglarized.
This is a list of all the stuff stolen/damaged to my car:
* Alpine CDA-9807 ... gone
* Alpine MRD-F240 ... gone
* Razo RA94 shift knob ... gone
* back right window ... smashed (needs re-tinting)
* 2 pairs of Sylvania CoolBlue headlights (all 9005 low and high beams)
* my backup pair of 9006 Sylvania Silverstars
* one neon tube from under my front seats
* the plastic trim piece on my center console is wasted ... snapped in two.
* my center console (the pocket trim piece) is ... gone
* my garage key (for the motorized garage door) ... gone in the process
* my 4" Heckler & Koch knife ... gone.
* my emergency roadside kit (jumper cables, puncture sealant, etc.) ... gone.
* my "Statistics for Electrical Engineers" textbook ... gone
* the cigarette lighter (or rather the harness behind it) is melted
* my brake/taillights don't work anymore ... nor does the clock on my dash ... I think these are just blown fuses...
* my basketball/football are also ... gone.
* CDs ... gone.
There's probably more, but I'm really too upset to think about it and list all of it.
I called my insurance company only to realize that they don't cover ANY of the losses/damages to my car. I suppose I have my parents to thank for that as they purchased liability-only coverage for me (since I wasn't driving my car on a normal basis during the 1st year of college). I originally had a full-coverage plan, but apparently, that changed. Parents aren't going to help me out with this either. In talking to my father, he made it clear that it's more or less my fault that my stuff was stolen as I didn't "take the necessary precautions." I suppose it is my fault that I didn't have an alarm, but then again, I'm from Oak Park, CA and if you ask Yukio (sp?) aka "CamryPunk", he'll tell you that Oak Park/Agoura Hills is arguably the safest of towns/cities in the entire state of California.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do in the long run. Right now, my plan is to continue working 40 hours weeks at Best Buy so I can get the money to fix my car (in addition to paying for rent, tuition, food, life-in-general) at which point I plan on selling it for a reasonable price (2800 perhaps? higher? lower? my 94 Camry LE has 103,xxx miles on it) and possibly getting a Ninja ZX-6R or an MR2.
Gosh, that was a long post. Here's a smilie to conclude how I feel:
