5 channel amps

My dad wants me to upgrade the stereo in his 05 taco. I'm thinking about a simple clean setup. A 5 channel amp, component sets, and a single 8"sub.

I like the JL Audio 500/5 but it's a little pricey for what we want to spend. I'm thinking about the Alpine MRV-F450. It seems to get good reviews online, and it's pretty cheap. About $210 on Ebay. Seems like a lot of power for the $.

Anybody got any other models I should consider?

The Kicker KX700.5 looks like another nice option.

Are you thinkin about running components in your front AND rear? Imaging is going to be pretty difficult, not mention it could potentially get expensive as far equipment goes... If not, then why go 5-channel? Unless, you're going for an active setup, there really is no point to it.

Instead, you should consider a quality 4-channel. A la..

You can run 80x2 @ 4 ohm to your components up front and 320x1 @ 4 ohm to your sub(s). All ratings @ 12V (unlike newer Alpine amps..) My buddy just has his PCX-480 benched and apparently, it did 523 x 2 @ 4 ohm... I'm not sure what this translates into 4 channels, but I imagine it being a lot...

If you're on a stricter budget, you might want to consider a HiFonics ZX6400. They can had in the sub-$200 range and they are great budget answers.

What components and sub are you looking to run?? Is you heart set on JL or would you consider other options?

Probably over your budget, but I know someone who is selling really nice Helix 5 Ch amps. I bought my HXA500Q for 425 shipped. the non Q(non chrome) version is less.

Pretty much the older version of this amp, same specs.

I have it and its very nice..I havent had any problems with it. Clean sound. My only complaint is that there isnt much power for the subs (400 watts)

I have a set of JL coaxes that I'm going to put in the rear doors. I'll use the HUs time-alignment to set the sound stage. We might go with a Solo instead of JL for the sub.
