Voice Coil

what exactly is voice coil? And what's the difference between dual 2 and dual 4? Is it just the Ohm resistance? and does that have to match up with the amp? (with the whole "75x2@4 ohm" deal)

I would explain it, but it's so much easier to give you a link

It's basically just an electromagnet that slides in and out of the big permanent magnet that is visible on the back. You usually can't see the voicecoil without taking the sub apart.

That link has a lot more info though.

So getting a dual 2 or dual 4 voice coil doesn't really matter? It's just preference? Or does it need to be compatible with the amp or anything?

Ideally, the resistance (ohm rating) of your sub(s) should compliment your amps to use it's power as efficiently as possible (without damage). Depending on the number of subs, the resistance, # of voice coils (dual vs sinlge) and configuration (parallel vs. series)...you wanna pick the right set up for your amp.

Here are some configurations with impedence;

Do you have an amp already? How many subs are you planning on running?

Not yet but I'm planning on getting the Diamond D5300.4 Here are those specs

• 37.5W x 4 @ 4 Ohm Stereo

• 75W x 4 @ 2 Ohm Stereo

• 150W x 2 Bridged @ 4 Ohms

And I'll be getting 2 6.5" subs and I don't know whether to get the dual 2 or the dual 4 VC.

well 2 dual 2ohm sub can be wired to, .5, 2, and 8 ohms

2 dual 4 ohms can be wires to 1, 4, and 16 ohms

so really either would work with your application since your power is about the same running stereo 2ohm and mono 4ohm

edit: and i like your avitar, Strong Bad rules
