XM compatability on HU

What HU has built in support XM receivers?

My friend subscribe to XM radio and use an FM modulator to his stock HU. However, he is looking to upgrade the sound system in the car. I know that an external tuner is required for the HU, but which brands support XM? He wants to do away with the FM modulator and have the tuner and controls hard wired into the HU instead of having a big thing on top of the dash.

I looked at Eclipse, but they only have a Sirius tuner available. What other brand will be close to Eclipse quality and support XM? How does Pioneer and Alpine compare?

I'm a Pioneer fan myself. If within the budget the DEH-P860MP is IMO the best deck for the price. About 300 on ebay. 50 more for the 960mp.

If you must go with Alpine, look for an '04 model cda-9833 or 9835

Other than the pre-out voltage, is there any difference between the Pioneer "regular" and Premeir series?

The Premier's warranty is also doubled. The Premier typically sells for less than the reg one

I don't think there is much more than that.

It took me a while before I noticed this, but the Premeir also has a 3-way pre-out setting for hi/mid/low in addition to the front, rear, sub settings. This is for the DEH-P860 and 960 models only.

Does the higher pre-out voltage make a difference for SQ if in the future external amps are added?.

The price difference is weird. I guess the Premeir ones are lesser known and thus there's less demand for them causing sellers to lower the price so that they can sell them. Supply and demand type deal.

That's why I try to rec. the 860mp over anything below it. That's when you get the 3 way mode option.

I think the difference's are just the 6.5 V preouts, which is a very good thing to have, and the warranty.

There's no reason at all to get the 8600mp when you can get the better 860mp at a better price.

Ok, I will make those suggestions to him.

I was asking about the pre-out voltage because I was also looking at the Premeir DEH-P770MP and the DEH-P8MP which are $200-270 on eBay in case he doesn't want to spend that much. The 770MP one has a 4V pre-out compared to the 6.5V on the 8MP and the 860MP.

If he ever want's to go active he won't be able to control it from the lower models. But then again he might not want to wire active at all and the lower models will work fine.
