Wire Gauges

There might be a thread on this already, but I did a search and couldn't find anything. I'm wondering now about wire gauges. Is there some website that could explain all that to me? I need to know what gauge wire to get for everything and I don't really know the differences between them. So any links or tips could be really helpful.

Cool thanks. That helps a lot...some of it over the head (Sound impedence/ 5% impedence on a 8-Ohm speaker yada yada yada). I think I just need to talk to my friend's dad who used to own a car audio store.

Thanks for the link.

TakeABao, that link just scared me. The scroll wheel did barely anything to the scroll bar and I saw diagrams and equations..I just couldn't take it.

I usually use 16 gauge speaker wire for the speakers, 12 gauge speaker wire for the subs. If you are using 1K + watt rms subs, you might consider 8-10 gauge.

For power wire, 8 gauge up to 300-400 watts rms, 4 gauge for 500+ watts rms. 1,000 watts rms+ 0/1 gauge.
