Question Info on OE decks for '96 Camry

Hi guys. My in-laws have a 1996 Camry (XLE I think, but at least an LE).

The CD player decided to eat a CD, about two years ago. Needless to say, they weren't in a rush to fix it. It played fine, but wouldn't eject.

They came to visit us last weekend, so I took the trim piece out and pulled the deck apart a bit. If you press eject, it whirrs but doesn't do anything. Appeared to me, I *think*, that the device on top that fastens into the CD to hold it in place, was not lifting up like it's supposed to. But I'm not positive. Didn't see any broken springs, but there's also a lot I couldn't see by just removing the top piece.

I was able to gently lift that up, and push the CD out. I put it all back together and told him to try another CD, and let me know what happens.

No call yet, but here's what I'd like to find out...

What OE-only decks are compatible with that particular model year? I want no aftermarket units - it just isn't worth it for their needs. Is/was there an in-dash CD changer unit, perhaps? I'd like to find a used takeout unit, either the same thing or a step or two better, to just drop in there and call it a day.

So I'm primarily looking, for now, for what works. I would not mind any offers for cheap units or giveaways, though. Of course I can always post in WTB for that.

Thanks-
=S2=

your best bet is to get another toyota deck. They're typically double-DIN placements. make sure you know which plugs you have in the back so you can find a newer stereo that will fit that has the same plugs and it will be a simple plug and play. see the thread here that i started last night: it's almost the same as what you need to do (except not with the speakers).
