Help With Alpine Headunits

Hello All,

This is my first post. I'm a proud new owner of a 05 4Runner. I'm thinking of putting a headunit in and am deciding between different Alpine models. Here's what I'm looking at.

Alpine IVA-D310
Alpine IVA-D900
Alpine IVA-D901

Well, here's the question that I'm hoping everyone can help me out. I've heard that a lot of the new headunits including Alpine, Kenwood, etc. are preventing consumers from playing burned DVD movies. Is this true? The reason I ask is that I have a ton of DVDs backed up onto a DVD-R and would hate to carry around the original in the car, especially during summer. I've also heard that some play DVD+R but many will not play DVD-R. Can anyone confirm this for me?

Thanks everyone and I hope to learn alot from you guys and hopefully pass on the knowledge as well.

Thanks cam2Xrunner. That thread helped me a lot. I now know that the new ones like the 901 will play burned movies. However, I noticed the guy didn't specify whether he used +R or -R. I read somewhere that people were having problems with -R but not +R. Any confirmation on that? Thanks.

Damn, that headunit looks pretty nice. Have you tried playing burned copies of DVD movies on it? Particularly in DVD-R format? I've read that Alpine has some kind of protection so that it won't play DVDs that have been copied from original DVD movies. Some have said that DVD+R works but not DVD-R. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
