I'm in the beginning stages of upgrading some of my electrical components in preparation for a nice little project coming up. One of the things I was going to do was get one of these digital battery terminals:

I have a pretty good idea how these hook up, but my question is are these on all the time? Sometimes I won't drive my car for a week at a time. I can't have this small current drain constantly on. If not, is there a remote turn on that I hook into somewhere (say splicing into my headlights)?

well, they are on all the time. however, using a relay you could wire it into your ignition so that it's only on when the car is on.

Blah. Troublesome. You have a pic of which wire is the ignition wire? I'm not very familiar with it.

picture, not really, but i'm sure u can figure out which one is accessory with a multimeter and ripping apart the ignition harness in the steering wheel area.

I've been looking all over in stores for these digital terminals, but couldn't find 'em I guess I gotta get 'em off the net.

as long as your battery is in good shape, then don't worry about it being on all the time. The LEDs would probably take about 4 months to drain your battery.

^probably longer than that. leds dont require much at all.

I think I'll just wire a switch in line with the LED so I can turn it on and off when I need to. I have enough trouble starting in the winter when I leave my car out in freezing weather for a week or two at a time.
