Okay. Many of you know im changing my audio system and all. Basically, I unhooked the battery, took out the audiobahn amp and put my diamond d5600.2 in. I hooked it up like how I normal did. I had the key in the ignition (not sure if this affected it) and then I connected the battery and blew out my 150amp fuse. So thinking its because the key was in the ignition, I bought a new one ($13 wtf) and put it in. no key in and boom, same damn thing. I checked and double checked all the connections and doesn appear anything is different.
What should I look for?? Btw, this new amp uses an extra 30amp fuse if that matters.
It sounds like your power cable is shorting out somewhere, thus, causing the fuse to break before reaching the amp. Why didn't you take the key out in the first place?
Places to check is where you route the power cable through. If it's through the firewall, make sure there are no metal touching it, put a grommet through the hole first. Check for any bends.
I've made the mistake a couple times of my hood actually being the short. I have a breaker, so I wasn't throwin money away, but yea. Make sure your stuff is tucked neatly in your engine bay and anyplace where it rubs a sharp peice of metal.
Disconnect the power wire from your battery. Then, if you have a multimeter with a continuty tester, touch the power wire with one lead then touch ground with the other lead. If there is continuity then your power wire is certainly touching ground somewhere. First I would check where the power wire goes through the firewall. If you didn't use a grommet then the sharp edge of the metal can cut into wire.
Also check your connections at the battery, fuse holder, and amp. If you didn't make the connection real tight and clean, little "frays" can stick out and touch ground. I've seen lots of people do this at the amp connections where the terminals are right next to each other.
