speaker question

Hi i just wanted to ask if anyone has some JDL 6x9 speakers because i have some and they don't sound good with just the plain stereo connected to it so i connected them to a a small 175 watt amp and it sounds a bit better and it sure has more bass that it even shakes the back of the front seat in my camry, however when i turn up the volume more than level 18 it starts to sound bad and distorted, I know that the speakers need a bigger amp to push them but i' seen on another thread that i searched that has a list of good and bad stereo equipment and those JDL's were there as well my front speakers that i bougth. So my questionis if i connect a bigger and better amp will the JDL's sound good and with a good amount of bass? Because these speaker look like they will sound good with a bigger amp but im not sure. I would really like to know if it is worth getting an amp for them

Thanx.

Do you mean JBL? Where is the HPF on your crossover set to? You might want to set it above 80 or 100 hz. Also where is the gain set on the amp, and what kind of headunit or signal source are you using to send it the signal?

OK to tell you the truth I bought all my speaker from the fleamarket They usually sell good stuff there. Ok now My headunit is a JVC KAMELEON (i think it's called) , My dad bought it from best buy like almost 3 years ago and then from there ii is connected to another cheap small amp and the brand name i think is called sound storm labs or some thing and from there it's connected to the 6x9's, I do not have a cross over. Basicly it's a unorganized and cheap set up. I'm not a sound system pro so i just bought all the stuff thinking that i was going to sound better, but it din't. You also have a camry right? Mine is a gen3 what kind of system do you have cuz i probably need a better set up here uh. Oh and the speaker are called JDL it stand for Japanese Dynamic Labs. I know i might sound like a cheese name, but the speakers look almost like pioners 6x9's.

You probably have a HPF in your headunit, or your amp.

I don't have my camry anymore, but if you want to upgrade, when you're ready post up a new thread with a budget. Also do some searching here and on some other audio forums like elitecaraudio.

What does HPF mean. High Power Failure, Highly Potencial but a Failure?

High Pass Filter. It will block out the lower frequencies(deep bass) that the speakers cannot handle.

Check your headunit settings for a HPF and turn it on, play with the adjustments and see what works best.

Your amp might also have a built in High Pass Filter too.

Does a noise filter count, cuz i have one installed because it had noise before, but before i put it on it sounded just the same but with the noise. Oh and the amp has a swich that aloows you to have it in pure bass or full sound out put and that how i have it right now, other than than that i think that those are all the controls that is has .

Ans i also have a cross over it is a roksford or some thing but it has the word rock in the name, so it benn sitting outside for a year and a half. i think i will take it apart tommorow to clean the inside of it because it has benn in the rain and it has rust. What exactly does a crossover do? I really never understood the function of it. The only reason that i use it was for making more connections for three amps. But after my dad sold his truck three years ago, it has never been used, I'll let you know if i get it to work properly tommorow. Thanx.

To put it in a nutshell, I would change out all four speakers. To make it simple go with four 6 x 9's or go with 6 x 9's in the rear and 5 1/4 components up front, run the 5 1/4 to the door panel and the tweeter through the dashboard. You can purchase some decent speakers at good prices just do a little research.

I just bought a clarion amplifier and hooked them to the rear 6x9's and they sound good, they shake the whole interior hard. I knew that those JDL's were goo but just needed a stronger amp.

Not the fleamarket were i go here in napa, they have pretty low prices compared to other fleamarkets, and most of the thing that you buy there work good. I have whent ther for years and have bought many thing and have never gotten ripped off. some times you can convince them to lower the price but it is kind of hard, but anyways it's a tru bargain. IMO
