Dash speaker replacement 2003 Camry w/JBL system

Has anyone had any luck finding aftermarket dashboard speakers to replace the factory speakers. Thanks in advance.

You can remove those speakers and put tweeters there if you want. Then replace the 6x9's in the doors with some nice mid's. Are you looking to do a whole system or just a simple upgrade using the stock power from the JBL amp?

I have already replaced my entire system, headunit, doors, rears, tweeters and amplifier. I have left the dashboard speakers untouched and in operating condition. I was wondering if you could squeeze a 3 1/2" speaker in the opening. I have taken the speaker out to check clearance and most 3 1/2" speakers out there will not fit the opening, but I cannot get specs on some 3 1/2". I guess unless I fabricate the area in some way there is not much you can do with the opening.

By the way I mounted the tweeters on the plastic piece that the outside mirror is attached to, this gives great imaging.

I'd just disconnet them. Do you feel your system is lacking anything? Midrange detail?

You might want to consider using a dome midrange in there, or if you are patient Buwalda Hybrids is coming out with a really nice 3" midrange called the Legatia.

Sweet, yes I am patient and would love to have some information on those hybrids. Where would be the best place to check the info out.

I haven't seen much of any technical specs, but from what I hear it's supposed to be very nice.

Hang out at the Buwalda Hybrid forums and you'll know when they are ready.

But the thing is this is just a individual midrange driver. You will need to wire everything up active and you'll need a 4 way crossover to control everything. Or at least a 3 way electronic crossover, and the sub out on your headunit. Plus you'll need more channels of amplification.

What exactly does your system consist of if you don't mind me asking?

Are you happy with it? If not, I'd look into getting a better set of front components and bridging the front 4 channels of the amp for them.

Then just disconnect the dashboard speakers.

System sounds great. Again I was just looking into a possible dashboard upgrade for that so called factory tweeter, PU.
