Canada MP3/cd player sound

I Have just bought a brand new 2004 TOyota Echo HB At purchase I upgraded the factory tapedeck to the factory toyota cd/mp3 player however I am not happy with the sound that I am getting.
Is this problem deck related or is it due largely in part tot he fact that the factory speakers pretty much lack?
Thanks

whats the bitrate of your mp3s? should always be above 128kbit/sec

other than that, factory speakers and head units always lack. only way to get better sound is to upgrade the speakers, to a HU with higher wattage output, or even better both.

+1 quality of MP3's definitely matter. You should have 192kbps mp3's (either VBR or CBR). There is a huge difference if you instead have a collection of craptacular 128kbps mp3's.

Waste of money...never ever upgrade to a premium stock from dealership.

I don't know if this the same in the hatchback or not, but my wife's 2003 echo did not come with front dash speakers installed. I ended up buying some 4 inch pioneers and they made a huge difference in sound quality, even with the factory cd player.
