Running 150 Hz Bass Blockers for 4" speakers @ 4 Ohms

Hey. I have two 4" coaxials in the front and two 6.5" coaxials in the rear.

The 4" speakers are rated for 75Hz, and the 6.5"s for 45Hz. Right now I am running High Pass Filter at 100Hz off the head unit.

I want to give my rear speakers a bit more bass, so I'm thinking about getting 150Hz bass blockers for the two 4" speakers and turning the High Pass Filter off on the head unit, ending up with no filter for the 6.5"s.

I have no amp or anything (only the head unit), so I'm thinking this is a safe setup that will allow a bit more bass in my rear 6.5" speakers without damaging the front 4" ones.

Is this a good way to go?

your headunit doesn't have separate adjustable filters for front and rear?? usually there are separte filters for front and rear.

if not, then yes, what you want to do will work fine.

but to see if this is going to be enough bass for you, just turn your filter off and fade to the rear fully. see if its going to be worth the effort.

That's the problem, my HU has the HPF but you can't adjust front and rear separately.

I turned the HPF off and there is a noticeable boom-ier bass but for some songs you can hear the fronts distorting and thats why I want the bass blockers.

It's not too much effort and they only cost like $10 so I think it's more or less worthwhile.

Anyway, thanks for the help!

Update: I got the 150Hz ones, and its no good. I realized they only roll off 6db per octave and from 150Hz to 75Hz (lowest freq for the 4" speakers) is only one octave, so it barely does anything (-6db).

Anyway, gonna get some 600Hz ones now. That should be -24db at 75Hz.

600 hz is up in the vocal range. I'm not sure if that is a good idea. But it's not exspensive to try out.

Yea but it only does -6db/octave, so 600 Hz makes sure that 75 Hz tones will almost completely be blocked (-24db@75Hz (4 octaves lower)); it doesn't completely cut off everything below 600Hz.

The 150 Hz blockers didn't work because 150Hz is only one octave to 75 Hz so it changes those tones by only -6db@75Hz.
