remote wire spliced to power antenna?

I am installing my amp and subwoofer.. so far I have the audio wire and most of the power wire run (just have to go through the firewall). I was going to run the remote wire (I guess what turns the amp on) up to the head unit and splice it into the power antenna wire... but I was just thinking... can't I splice it to the power antenna wire(s) in the trunk? Can I do this? If so, how and what wire... it would probably save me a bit of time and I don't really want to splice right behind the head unit.. just have a feeling I'll mess something up somehow...

Oh and right now my antenna is not hooked up at all if that matters but I'm pretty sure it doesnt...

btw I have a 1994 camry

If you splice into the power antenna, you amp might only turn on when you are listening to the radio and then turn off when you listen to CD.

It may work, but...

Be careful. If that turn-on lead is only to "trigger" the antenna, it will be fine with the possible exception noted earlier with the radio/CD. If however, it will power the motor on that antenna there is a very high risk that it will damage the circuitry in the head unit for that turn-on lead. That wire is only meant to serve as a trigger, not a power source. I damaged a head unit once doing something similar.

since you are running the power to your amp, i would be just as easy to get your sourc from the lighter and just tape/ zip tie to your power wire. no worries about it being on only if you have your cd on

So splicing the remote wire to your cig lighter is fine right? Cause it's a constant 12V power source correct?

cig isn't a constant source..per say...it's on when you turn the key to ACC or ON. but yes, for a source for your amp remote...it's perfect if your HU isnt capable of doing handling it
