A quick (maybe not so quick...) question

How do you replace the old stereo in a 1989 camry? I've looked for screws and such but haven't found them. Please help!

just a guess but im pretty sure you're going to have to rip out a panel or a plastic plate that surrounds your stereo before you can see screws or the assembly.

So I have to take a ratchet to the panel around the glove compartment, huh.

I thinkh e meant there should be a palstic trim piece that surrounds the stereo and such..you'll have to pry it off if it's like a corolla, it jsut has little clips holding the pasltic..then you'll see the screws.

Yeah it has a black plastic trim around it, but I was hoping there would be a different way besides just ripping it out.

I'm not too sure there is. I know for the camry you start by pulling around the bottom near the ashtray area and pry it out. Some people broke the ashtray frame area so i'd be careful. I'm not familiar with your car so perhaps its best if you wait for someone who actually has ur car and has done it before. We wouldnt want you to break anything or do something that doesnt need to be done. But as always this is a do it at your own risk sorta deal.

I have found out that a lot of things on cars are just apinned in...how cheap.

Yeah I don't want to break anything unless it's necessary. I hope a person that has this model camry comes around soon...

ok dude, there are 2 screws at the top of the trim peice around the stereo/ac controls...remove those

Then pull the ash tray out, and and use a screw driver or something to pry the trim piece away from the dash. As long as you are careful and apply even preasure, it wont break...after that there are 4 screws holding the stereo in. straight forward from there.

no p....just use the screw driver to pry the top of the trim peice out, then you should be able to get it out no problem.
