Single Sub = Port or 2 Sealed?

Opinions please.

I was going to get 2 Diamond D6 Subs with 2 Diamond D5600 amps (I already have one sub and amp)

Now, For what I am doing I only have physical room for one D6 in a ported box or 2 D6's in a sealed enclosure. Both getting their recommended amount of air.

What do you think would sound best and get the most bass? Doing just 1 in a ported (dual ported actually) will save me about $400 and I have more to spend on sound deadening.

Thanks

The pair will be louder, but for the sake of not drowning out your front stage, id recommend going with a single D6 ported.

You said you already have the D6?

I would try it out in a sealed box first. Just one. If it's not loud enough, then go ported, but by going ported you lose a little bit of sound quality.

Two D6's sealed would definitely be loud enough imo.

Well what I am thinking is instead of spending the extra $400 on another sub/amp. spenidng some of that on matting my trunk would make it sound better with less vibrations, ya know?

I want to do a ported box. I have enough room, I have time to do it. I also have a lot more machines to my access now, so perfect cut can now be achieved.

Very good idea to deaden the car. I rec. raammat.

Are you sure you want to go ported though? The sealed box is going to have better SQ. The ported box will get louder by roughly 3 db, but at the cost of some sound quality.

I think im sure. I have a 1.2cf single box here to test though. Been reading, they recommend a 1.2ish sealed box for these subs, so its worth a shot. But im going to read up on ported boxes, if its too hard, ill skip it.

Yeah try them both out if possible, that's always a good idea. For some help on building a proplerly tuned enclosure check out these links.

You could always get a new alternator with that 400. After all it is the main power source for a system!

Ill be fine wiht my stock alt and new battery.

Now if I could only comprehend what I need to do for the port size, I will be good to go.

IMO, if you can tune the ported box low enough, say around 20-25hz, SQ will not suffer at all. A ported enclosure will be more efficient, so you dont need as much power to the sub. The only downside, though not a biggie, is the sub is more succeptable to damage from playing below the tuning frequency, so be sure your amp has a subsonic filter and set it appropriately. I love a ported box personally, and am planning on doing one in my 05 tacoma.

Can someone share any help on finding out how large the ports will be. 2 Rectangle ports on each side (so it looks balanced). I think in specs it shows it at 4x20ish (cannot look at specs due to being at school). But thats a round port? no? So complicated, , i read about 10 tutorials and I still barely grasped the concept.

It's alot more complicated than just "using one on each side so it looks balanced". Ported boxes are complicated to design and get tuned right. You can't just add another without affecting the functionality of the box. If the manufacturer recommends a single 4" round x 20" length port, it will be a good place to start. You can use 4" pvc pipe for your port, just be sure to round off the edges on both ends to help reduce port noise. Then just paint it black unless you want a white port. If your doing it yourself, just make sure you follow the dimensions of the box and port closely. Check this page out for alot of good information: http://www.bcae1.com/
