Amp questions

I searched the forums and couldn't find anything, so don't get mad if this is a repost.

First off, where can I find out how to tune my amps? Just owner's manuals?

Second, I saw that when I bridged my amp it needs to be a minimum 4 Ohm impedence. How can I be sure that my speakers are giving a 4Ohm impedence.

That's about it for now. I'll get some pics of my completed system tomorrow.

What type of speakers are running on the amp and how many?

If your system is already installed your gains should already be set.

What exactly are you asking? How to set the gains on the amps? How to set the crossover points?

As for minimum impedance, the only way to surely tell is with an scope to see what the impedance curve is. Most of the time, there's a spec sheet that comes with speakers. Just look for the point where the impedance is the lowest.

What kind of speakers do you have hooked up to your bridged amp? What is the impedance of them? It's measured in Ohms (usually 2,4, or 8). Single voice coil? Dual Voice Coil? (two or four wire connections on back of speaker??)

I set the gains on my amps by playing some music at about 3/4 volume on my head unit. Turn all the amps off except for 1 of them. Turn it up until you start to hear some distortion, then turn the power off on that amp. Turn the next amp on, and repeat. I usually mark this spot so I know never to turn it past that point. Then, Listen to some music, and see if it sounds balanced, more than likely it's not going to be, so turn down the gains on some the amps until you get the sound balanced pretty good.

Alright, I understand setting the gains, I think I'll figure out how to tune it by just reading the owner's manual. What I'm worried about is destroying the amp because I'm not running 4 Ohms to it when it's bridged.

I have a D5300.4 Amp bridged (+ wire plugged into 1+, - wire plugged into 2-, and then same with 3/4, correct?) to 2 passive crossovers each running 1 mid and 1 tweet. Then I have a D5300.2 bridged to run (2) 4 Ohm dual voice coil subs. Here's how I wired those:

Umm, I just answered my question by looking at that picture. haha.

But what about the passive crossovers, is that ok?

I'm confused about the part where you are talking about bridging the 4 channel.

Read page 9 of this, it explains how to bridge the amp

http://www.diamondaudio.com/products...0.4-030403.pdf

Then let me know if you have any ?'s on that. Basically you are going to turn the 4 channel amp into a 2 channel amp. Using the front channels to go to the left crossover, than the rear channels to go to the right channels.

On the 4 channel amp you are going to set the crossover to HPF on, and set it to about 63-100hz. You want the mids to play low, but not too low to where it will distort.

You'll leave the LPF off.

On the 2 channel amp for the eu-700's you want to turn the LPF on and set it do about 60-120 hz, once again, play around with it and see what ounds best. Leave the HPF 0ff.

When setting the gain, bring the headunit volume to 75%, then turn the gains down on the amp, and work your way higher until you can hear distortion, then turn it down some.

Read this.

Alright, for the 4 channel, I used the 1 and 2 channels for one crossover and the 3 and 4s for the other crossover. That's how I understood how to bridge the amp. Everything is working and it sounds great, but I'll screw around with it a little more with what you said. I just got out of my truck and I'm a little shaken. it's incredible. My heart rate is slowly going down now. It all sounds right to me...

Your not bridging the 4 channel amp, since your using all 4 channels. IE: mid or tweet on each channel.

Your 2 channel amp (D5300.2) is bridged though. Its running at 4 ohm mono, or atleast it should be if everything is hooked up correctly.

He's using the passive crossovers though. He bridged the 4 channel amp to get more power out of it.

I only knew that because I rec'd that amp for him in a earlier thread

Diamond D5300.4, you can pick it up off ebay for like 120 shipped BNIB. Does 150 watts rms x 2 when bridged. AND it has bandpass crossovers if you did want to go active without having to use a highend headunit. Sweet deals on a hella clean amp.
