Is My Head Unit Dead?

one day, i turn on the car and i notice that my head unit 'reset' when i say 'reset' i mean the settings went to default...

i jsut turned on my car to get home from my friend's and i noticed all the lights were off and it didn't show what track it was on.. i turned off the car and turned it back on and i watched as it turned on, all the lights started to fade off... and none of my buttons worked...

i DO know that when my car is having a hard time to start in the cold that the headunit will reset (this only happens if the headunit turns on as the car turns on)

however since the past few months, i always turn the head unit off before turning off the car and turn it on manually after turning on the car

is this a sign that my head unit is head or could it be something else?

if u said your battery is having trouble, maybe your battery is going? might not be giving off a charge anymore. what HU? is it old? also check your wiring and see if everything is tight..

it's a kenwood headunit.. kinda old...

battery normally doesn't have problems in the summer... had it checked.. other than being a crappy battery.. it's good to go...

the headunit can only do one thing now... play the music on my cd... can't change the cd can't change volume... and can't turn it off... just i can't do anything else

new battery will never hurt, might not be the solution to the problem though.

Oh i know im almost positive its not but im just saying if your battery isn't good like u said then theres no harm in upgrading your electrical system one step at a time eh.

yea... i used a wiring harness... i guess i'll check tonight whether it's still good.

i'll check the battery again... but i can't see buying a new GOOD battery as an option... since i don't think i'll keep this car for too long... but i can't stand not being able to change my cds and lowering the volume (it was a bad idea to leave it on so loud ><)

In the words of a wise man, "Desperate times call for desperate measures."

To me, I don't know a whole lot about car audio, but if you have a crappy battery, it seems logical that a good battery could help a whole lot. If the thing reset and lights are dimming, it sure sounds like a battery to me.

And you want your music back, but you don't want to pay for the fix. Trade-offs and opportunity costs, my man. (Senior year Economics, I learned my stuff.)
