Question Strange wiring in radio.

Howdy all,got a strange problem with my 91 Toyota MR2.The idgit that owned it before me put a Sony Xplod CDX-4000X in the car but I think he f...... something up big time. The problem is that the reception was real bad with the radio, when I looked at the wiring I saw that he/she had spliced the antenna wire into some wiring in the back. When i took the strange wire out of the antenna hole all power went out to the radio.Put it back in and jiggle it a little and the power came on.I went and bought some antenna cable to try to fix it but nothing is working.I put the new antenna in the antenna hole on the radio and connect the antenna wire to the antenna and nothing happens,no power,no dispay, nada.I put the idgits wire in the radio wrap that beyootch around the idgits setup and POOF,the radio has power.I guess the bottom line is that when I put a new antenna wire into the radio and connect to the anteena I get nothing, yet if i twist two wires together and stick into the radio's antenna hole then twist the wires around the exposed car antenna it has power.Real freaky, any help would be appreciated. If anyone has the MR2 radio wiring guide maybe that would help.Thanks.

This is for a 90-93 celica, but the wiring is probably the same.

I would recomend buying an installation harness like this one and rewiring it.
