hey guys im just getting into car audio and i have a question about wiring
ok so i have a 4 ohm SVC sub and a mono amp 150 at 2 ohms
is there some way to get my sub to run at 2 ohms?
the amp has 2 pairs of speaker output but it is a true mono amp
not unless you got two subs with four ohm can you get two ohms. and i dont recommend doing it like that picture. id say just bridge it so it will run four.
There are no negative effects of bridging, but what you've shown will NOT work. The transistors in the amplifier don't work that way with the +'s and -'s. You should just use the outermost + and - terminals to bridge the amp, otherwise, you may damage the amp and/or sub.
Also, you don't "bridge" a mono amp, you "load" it down. So if a mono amp is rated at 150W @ 2-ohm, you can have two 4-ohm subs in parallel.
hey luc if i plug it into the two outside plugs like you said, what will be the output for this situation?
75 watts.
You want to use the left + (positive) and right - (negative) terminal on the amp. This applies to most mono amps and stereo amps (running in bridged mode), unless you have a amp with some weird wiring.
Anyways there should be a label or something on the amp that tells you which terminals to hook the speaker up to.
Like 88LE said, your amp will only give out about 75W when you bridge it. Most manufacturers are likely to post their rated power from a 2-ohm point of view, so when consumers see that larger number, then it becomes a selling point. Also, look for other ratings which include a 20-20kHz frequency response. Again, manufacturers can post something like 500 watts @ 1kHz, but that's not the true power output throughout the entire band.
