HU or amp problem

last night i was driving down the freeway and something strange happened the highs stoped working bit my subs kept hitting . so would that be a problem from the amp on my highs or would it be my HU. O hby the way i have an av3423 for the hu i have an arc audio 4050 on the inside speakers( stock just did this way so when i change it would be easyer) and an arc 2500 on 3 L7

BTW it only happens when i turn it up. and also blew some speaker in the car yesterday so if you can recomend a decent componat set i could get form ebay for no more the 125

plug something else into the amp, like a mp3 player or a cd player

Could be the ground or power wire also.

it is extremely unlikely to be anything but power/ground wire connection or a low impedance condition on the outputs (basically an overcurrent condition).

overcurrent conditions usually arise because of using the wrong speakers on the amplfier or what happens far more common is that a speaker connection is touching the window winder frame or door panel, etc.

unplug the amplifier INPUTS (RCA's). switch on the system. does the amplifier switch on? if not then the issue is on the grounding side of the amplifier's connections. check power wires second. EVERY connection.

it is possible that you have a speaker wire short somewhere as mentioned above. if troubleshooting the power wires does not fix the problem then disconnect one speaker AT THE AMPLIFIER, then the other. work systematically till the amplifier does not shutoff.

i had a similar problem last week in my truck and it turned out to be the fuse in the fuseholder in the engine compartment had gotten loose. the fuse is fine but i had to recrimp the terminals on the fuseholder to ensure a tight fit to the fuse. all is well now.

why not. If you were trying to determine if there was a sound issue coming from the HU, plugging something in that you could easily test elsewhere (headphones) would do no damage, mabye it wouldnt sound good but you would be able to see if the HU was reproducing all the correct sounds
