Using Car subwoofers at home

Now, this is probably a stupid question and i think i already know the answer...

But do you think it is safe for the reciver/sub or possible to use a 4 ohm Car subwoofer on a Home Amplifier thats intended for 8 ohm speakers?

Im thinking it will work, but only on heavy duty amps. Cause 4 ohms doubles the watts output.

Has any of u guys used car subs for home theater use?

A sub is a sub. Alot of car audio subs are just rebadged home audio subs.

If your amp is not 4 ohm stable I wouldn't connect a 4 ohm sub. Now if you have two 4 ohm subs you can wire them in series to get an 8 ohm load and you'll be good to go. Hopefully you'll have enough power to make the subs sound good.
