The past couple weeks my amp keeps shutting off, from I guess overheating. It'll shut off for about 5 min with the "Protect" LED on and stay that way for about 5 - 10 min and then resume playing. I've even had the A/C on and the back seat folded down and still no change. It usually takes an hour or two of driving before it does this. Once it shuts down, it'll shut down every 30 min or so for 5-10 minutes.
I'm thinking about taking one of my computer fans and mouting it in the trunk to blow air at it. It's a 92 mm fan that blows about 30 ft^3 / min...I dunno if that'll help.
Or is it problem with the amp and I need to exchange it under warranty?
I have the system in for about 2 months, the amp and the sub anyway, and it did not do this for the first month or so when the system was in there. The amp is mounted on the back of the sub enclosure. The sub faces the rear of the car and the amp face the rear seats. Enclosure is 0.9 ft ^3 made from 5/8" MDF and has Polyfill inside. Box is carpeted, but does not have carpet on the face where the amp is mounted.
I have a JBL GTO 755.6 (6 ch amp).
The sub I have is a ID10 v3 dual 2 ohm
The components in front are Polk db 6750, 6.75" woofer and 1" tweeter. I took out the
HU is Eclipse CD8454
Wiring is done with Knukonceptz 4 ga amp kit.

well, first of all, I'm not a big fan of the gto series for JBL....the power series is semi-competitive and much better, but.....
it should still have very little problem running everything that you have there....especially since you only have front components and a sub
the only question that I have though is about your sub....the dual 2ohm coils....how do you have them hooked up? if you're running it at 1ohm, then your amp may very well overheat all the time, since it isn't a d-block that's stable at 1ohm

It looks like you are running a 2ohm sub on a 4ohm amp. Thats why you keep overloading tha amp. It's not overheating it's overloading or maybe both. But anyways I'm almost sure you can't run a 2ohm speaker on the amp without bridgeing 2 channels if it's bridgeable. What you need to do is wire the sub in series. Just run - to + and viceversa so the 2 pair of voicecoils you have. That should solve the problem. If not check the grounds and power see if the are not shorting out.
i have the same problem, it shuts off when i dont have air blowing on it... how did i hook up a fan?
ill assume you mean how to. I went to ratshack and picked one up. You can use any computer fan i believe, cut off the molex connector. Run it off the remote and grounds off the amp and yer good to go.

I am going to use the remote wire, but i'm going to hook that to a relay to run the fan. I have a 500mA fuse on the remote wire, so I don't want to blow that. When the amp is running, there is approx 230mA on the remote wire. I will be using this relay.
yea check that really good. my sub amp turns off becuase my ground wire is to long and its not grounded in a good spot.
The amp is still on, the red LED is on when the amp shuts off so it's definitely getting power. The ground wire is 3 ft long 4 AWG and is connected to a 12mm or 10 mm bolt under the seat. It holds the side cushion (next to the fold down seat) at the bottom.
Are you clipping the signal? How high is the gain on the sub channel? That Eclipse Unit has very strong preouts, and the gain should be barely turned on.
There is no setting labeled "gain" on the amp. It has something labeled "Input Level" on it though. There's two markings on there, one is 250 mV and the other is 6V. I turned it all the way clock wise to 6V setting.
